My problem - student loans

Hi

I was going to go to UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON, my EFC number was a little under 2000. My parents are right in the middle and cant help at all.

I was planning on just getting student loans for college. When the time came for that I didnt have a co-signer and no one would give me loans, I tried Sallie Mae!

My parents dont have the credit to cosign and everyone says I HAVE to have a cosigner. My grant money and my stafford loans werent enough, I need an extra 4k a semester.

I didnt get to go and now Im gunna try to go again at UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO. Any Advice?

Did your parents apply for the PLUS loan? If they apply and, as you said, due to their credit are declined, you will be able to access an additional $4000 per year in Unsubsidized Stafford (presumably you are a Freshman this year, as a Junior or Senior, this amount would be $5000).

Otherwise, you could ask the school if they have any Perkins loan funds you could borrow from. Once these two options are exhausted, you will need to apply to a loan with a co-signer. Most student loans have options to defer repayment until after graduation, so the co-signer won't need to pay for you. Ask your parents if they would feel comfortable doing something like this.
