So during my microeconomics exam last week I got up to use the bathroom during the exam. I didn’t have to use the bathroom but I did have a really bad cold and needed to blow my nose or else snot would have literally been on my exam. So, my teacher asked to meet with me and I received an email saying that I am being accused of cheating on this exam and it’s being put on my record with the potential of failing the class. My teacher never said that we could not leave the room during an exam, and in my previous classes at this university students have left the room.
I am meeting with my teacher tomorrow, not sure what is going to happen.
You mean you randomly got up and walked out of the room, without speaking to the TA/GA/Professor/ Proctor on the way out to door? You couldn’t blow your nose in the classroom and failed to take kleenex or toilet paper or something else despite knowing you had a cold?
The first place to start is meeting with the prof, tell them your story accurately and without embellishment. Good Luck.
For future reference, never walk out of the room during an exam without speaking to the professor. I hate to sound harsh, but the professor probably didn’t tell you because they thought it was common sense.
Actually the other day I was having some stomach pain earlier on in the day so I was worried I would have to take one or more bathroom breaks during an exam later on in the day (luckily I felt better by the exam and didn’t have to leave the exam room). But I was more worried about losing time on exam, I didn’t think I would get accused of cheating if I left the exam room, especially since ppl do that all the time during lectures. Scary that students can get accused of cheating that easily, although I guess it does sort of makes sense because some students might leave the exam room to look up answers on their phone and etc (I guess the cheaters kind of ruin it for everyone).
I hope your professor understands and doesn’t fail you. Maybe next time you get a cold during an exam bring tissues so you don’t have to leave the room.
