Ok so I am currently a senior in high school, and I was rejected from UIUC (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign) and I applied to UChicago, but there is no way in hell they will take me if UIUC rejected me. I'm majoring in English and I could attend one of my safeties which are:

Loyola Chicago
University of Iowa
ISU (Iowa State University)
Augustana College (Small liberal arts college no one has heard of. ever. seriously)

I don't want to attend a research university because it does not fit with my major, obviously Augustana is my last option. So I'm thinking about accepting Augustana and then transferring to a better liberal arts school. I have no idea what to do, my parents don't understand the college process and both of them went to Community college.

Why do you think that a research university is not a suitable place to major in English? I don't know much about the other schools, but UIowa has a great reputation for creative writing and I'd guess English as well.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with majoring in english and going to a research university. im not sure if you get in state tuition in iowa for some reason, but if you dont that oos tuition will hurt. uiowa is probably the best for english, but iowa state is an awesome college and i wouldnt say uiowa is really putting people ahead of isu.

Thank you for all of the helpful advice. yes I would receive iss for Iowa so thats a good thing. The problem is that I have only heard good things about Iowa's graduate and PhD English program. Their undergraduate rankings in English didn not even make it.

Is it still good in undergrad though, I mean it has to be
My parents did not even understand why it was good in grad school English but bad in undergrad English
