Hello!
I would greatly appreciate an analysis of my situation.
If any other info is needed just ask.
SAT: Comp-1940 Math-680 Reading-640 Writing-620
ACT: Comp-30 Math-33 English-31 Reading-31 Science-27
GPA: Weighted-3.96
Classes: Every honors class my school has to offer(7) along with 6 APs and 2 ACP classes.
Extra-Curricular: Volunteer at Girls on the Run and The Red Cross; played soccer my freshman and sophomore years; on the debate team from sophomore year to senior year.
Recommendation letter: One of them is perfect by my AP Language teacher who is a ND grad. The second is a beautifully written essay by my honors english 10 teacher.
Essays: All checked by my AP Lang teacher who is mentioned above.
Hook: My father is a professor(16 years) and head of laboratory. He is two years away from tenure.
If it makes a difference I will be applying to the Mendoza.

I try to avoid the chance me posts, as a parent but – we know a lot of kids at ND and have watched the admissions cycle the last few years.

If you look at the Common Data Set (searchable on ND website), the middle of the class scores between 31-34 ACT and between about 2000-2270 SAT. Though the common data set does not report gaps, 90% of the admitted students are in the top 10% of their class. Anecdotally, the students we know admitted had well above 4.0 weighted gaps – with an AP/Honors curriculum, their highest possible gpa was probably around a 4.6.

Having a professor who is not yet tenured (unless he is at ND, and that still only makes a small difference – a thumb on the scale for an otherwise well-qualified applicant, as we are told by friends on the ND faculty) is not a hook. A hook is being an underrepresented minority or a recruited athlete etc.

One does not apply, or be admitted to a specific college at ND. All students are admitted into the first year of studies program. I believe Mendoza is not “gated” --it is open to all interested undergrads.

With this in mind, your record does not appear to make you a competitive applicant at ND. If Catholic schools are what you are interested in, you might take a look at Holy Cross in MA, Fordham in NY, Loyola in Chicago, Marquetter in Milwaukee.

Good luck with your search.

Oops, that would be “gpas” not gaps.
