I'm going to be a freshman this year, and this is my schedule:

French 2: M-F 11:00AM-11:50AM (every day is a lecture)
Intro to Psych: T/Th 9:30AM-10:45AM
Macroeconomics: T/Th 1:00PM-1:50PM (Recitation on Friday, same time)
Business Calculus: M-F 3:00PM-3:50PM (T and Th are recitations, MWF are lecture)

So this puts me at 2 classes on M/W, 4 classes on T/Th, and 3 classes on F. These four classes equal 15 credits. I'm taking them to transfer into the business school. As for time between classes - more than 10 minutes would be nice, but I'm going to University of Pittsburgh and so everything's a fairly short distance away (3 out of 4 classes are across the street from each other, and the 4th class is a few blocks away).

I really wanted to have Friday off, or at least end my days earlier, but I don't think my adviser really listened when I said that. However, I recently read a thread about scheduling, and people said that 3 classes are pushing it in a day, and 4 becomes very hard. I also want to be involved in clubs/activities (including hopefully being a tour guide, which I hear is very time consuming). For some background on me, I've always been in the gifted program, made decent grades, had relatively high SAT scores (2000) and took APs senior year, but I've never been a studier - I guess you could call me smart by design, but a slacker. I gained a work ethic senior year, but I'm worried this schedule will burn me out.

Is this schedule too demanding? I'm a little wary of the time frame. I'd like to hear opinions.

Is there a “first period” business calculus? Yes, getting up early is a pain, but your last class would end 2 hours earlier, which is a lot. You probably wouldn’t want/be able to be a tour guide in between classes.

15 credits is “average.” It seems that there is no way around having so many classes per day, so you might as well get calculus and language out the way. 4 classes per day is going to be your hard day, but be aware that posters may be talking about classes that are normally between an hour and an hour and a half, instead of 50 minutes. Still you will have 4 classes to prep for on Thursday which won’t be a lot of fun. At least Friday isn’t your busy day.

How come your total econ lecture time is so short compared to your other classes? (Just curious.)

I think four classes are doable (if not desirable) and you do have a one-hour lunch break in the middle, which will let you freshen up and prep for the other two classes. Three of those four classes are also only 50 minutes, which is relatively short for lectures. If one of your non M-F classes had an early MW section, though, I think it might be better.

Yeah, this is an average number of classes. In a perfect world you could have squished them all into Monday through Thursday, but from my experience this workload will be fine.

4 isn’t too much to do in a day. I had four back-to-back classes last semester, and it wasn’t awful. The T/Th classes might be harder since they’re longer, but probably still doable.

My first semester I took five classes in the same day on a MWF schedule. I didn’t have a problem with it. Second semester I took four in a day, one of them was only MW, and I took an online class too. Again, no problem. It looks like a decent schedule. It runs a little late, but if you like later classes then go for it.
