My school doesn't offer AP until junior year...will this hurt my chancr?

I’m currently a sophomore at a small MA public school trying to get into Barnard College. I am currently in all honors classes, have an ok GPA (4.45 weighted) and was only a few points away from qualifying for National Merit Scholars on my PSAT (1400, 740 on R&W, 620 on Math). I’m in a lot of extracurriculars, nearly all of which are related to journalism/creative writing, art, or athletics, and have been recognized by the Scholastic Art&Writing Awards and other organizations. However, my school doesn’t offer AP until junior year, and realistically (because of required studies and a lack of variety) I can only take about six before I graduate.

I’m essentially unhooked: I’m white, both my parents have doctoral degrees, upper middle class, etc. The only points of interest is that my mother is an immigrant from Turkey, and that I identify at LGBT, but neither counts for much.

Will this hurt my chances of getting into Barnard? I really, really want to go.

My kid’s school did not offer APs until SENIOR year, and they could only take 2. My youngest (unhooked) got in everyplace she applied, including some schools ranked higher than Barnard (which wasn’t on her list, but just saying – APs are not necessary if your school doesn’t offer them). Colleges look at what is offered at your HS, and do not penalize you if you don’t have AP’s offered. HYPSM probably like it if you self study and add some, but below that… I would not worry about it.

I don’t think this will really hurt your chances! I got in ED with only 2 APs from my senior year (and mediocre SATs/ACTs) Don’t sweat it! Keep your grades up, and when the time comes, spend lots of time with the essays because I believe those have the most impact!
