anything that meets 3 times a month is considered absolutely phenomenal. nobody does anything in clubs. most of them meet once a year. and these kids write that on college apps, like .000001 hours / week, and they still get into HYPSMC blhablahblah etc. If i even suggest that, I dont know, meet once a week, nobody would want to join. how am i supposed to do anything if everyone's studying 24 hours a day?

That's really odd. Surely there must be some people at your school willing to devote some time to clubs? If they really are that obsessed with getting into HYP then maybe you could emphasize the fact that being able to put more than a few hours/wk for clubs looks good on college applications.

I would start by recruiting your friends first, then let the clubs grow and branch out.

My school's math/science clubs are really lacking (read: nonexistent), and when people show up for Latin club it's really unenthusiastic. I've been trying to up this... It's hard, I know. But keep trying, somebody has got to want it.

What's sad is that here not even the teachers want a math club :( Maybe if you got a teacher more involved, even if it was just you and them, it may be more fun?

GAH yes! There's just no enthusiasm for clubs at my school either! The clubs meet once a month at best, and mostly we just sit there for 5 minutes discussing what we should do at the next meeting...I'm just waiting for the opporunity to seize a leadership position, b/c seriously, these clubs need a lot of improvement.

get like pizza or something at the meeting to make them exciting. =]

Hmm, I hardly ever went to club meetings. I really wasn´t involved in clubs in my school. (Didn´t much like the other members, was usually the problem.) Except for drama club, because 1) it was really fun :D and 2) drama club meeting = rehearsal, and I always had major parts, and I knew what it was like to have someone with a major part decline to show up at rehearsal. -- I actually punched a guy for that once... >> :)

Nearly all the clubs at my school meet during our 35 minute lunch period once per week. The only one that doesn't that I can think of right now is Forensics which meets for 2 hours one day per week, and has competitions on the weekends.

If you're looking for EC's that you can contribute a lot of time to, consider community service. No matter where you live there are options for volunteering. Also, if you live near a decent sized city there are often many activities such as community service, sports, jobs, music lessons, etc.

My school doesn't even have clubs. That's how little enthusiasm there is. FCA meets once a week, but that's a pretty large club. FFA and FCCLA are clubs, but those do way more than just meet and talk about stuff because they're national clubs with a real organization system. Other than that, nothing.

It's going to be really hard to change the way clubs work in your school in any way at all. If no one is accustomed to going, no one will. The biggest problem for clubs is that no one has time for them, no matter how much they want to participate. You really can't fix that.
