my short answer is, well... long. Is this okay?

On my EA application using the Common App., I had a short answer essay that was 149 words. I got rejected EA, and I think much of it was b/c of the lack of depth in my essays, so I re-did my Short Answer (about the most meaningful activity)

Is it okay that my new "Short Answer" is about 300 words long? My sister is an english major, and she read it... she said that she didn't see anything excessive that should be cut out. If I feel that every word is valuable in order for the admissions committee to get a good picture of me, is 300 words okay? I could go with my original essay of 149 words, but frankly it was impossible to show my depth of thought in only 149 words, and it was pretty much crap. Any opinions? THanks

oh... and my personal statement is less than 500 words, so maybe that makes up for it? I just don't want to appear to be one of those "the thicker the file, the thicker the kid" cases when the committee reviews my application

I sent Boston College an 850 essay on the Common App and got accepted. My English teacher (He went to Harvard and is very involved in admissions to colleges) said that word limits are just guidelines, they don't really care as long as you don't write some huge 3 page thing.

okay, thanks, i was really nervous that I was going to have to cut it. and that would have made me sad, b/c I really like it as is
