please tell me what YOU think his chances are..im putting him at 40 % because of his scores and good EC's...but it is P ton :P

I'd say 40% also...same as me and everyother guy...sigh

sorry for taking up your thread, but I don't feel making another thread for this quick question,

I have a combined score of 2150 on my SAT, and 800 on math IIC, 800 on phyiscs, and 730 on chem, are they considered low or average in Pton? thanks

the sat 1 is low-medium, the sat 2 are high

always-it depends on what ur cr and math scores were
father- there is no way of giving a percentage but I would say that your son has a fairly solid chances. He is definately very competative with the scores and grades of others who apply to Princeton

These things are close to impossible to predict well. I think that your GPA and SAT scores only carry you to a certain level...they decide whether you're tough enough for Princeton or not. But with the number of qualified applicants, they could fill Pton several times over with such applicants. It's at this point that they look at teacher recs and essays to ask themselves "who would enrich our campus the most?"

Or that's my guess, anyhow.

yes youve hit the nail on the head CP,

you can't say someone with 2300 has 5% better chance than someone with 2280. It doesn't work that way. If your scores are good, that puts you on the same ground as the other 12000 applicants.

CautiousPessimism is right

People on CC dont understand that grades and SAT scores can only take you so far at HYPS, maybe at less selective colleges but not at the super elite.

You have to have something that they want in their campus, no matter how high your sat scores are. Thats what many of you kids who get rejected will not realize until its too late.

father91...you don't mention whether ED or RD. ED good chance, RD a crap shoot.

wsox I disagree.....someone's shots in ED and RD are actually more similar than most think. ED has a much stronger pool of applicants, hence the 30% acceptace rate compared to 10% for RD. I definitely think ED gives an edge, especially for deferrees in RD, but it doesn't inflate the chances by a ton.

OP: Good luck with your son!

JTC007 Read the Early Admission Game. There is only a very slight increase in average test scores (for example) in the ED round. They estimate the improvement in ED odds as comparable to an increase in odds of approximately 100 SAT points on the old SAT test (verbal and math). Byerly (possibly the most irritating poster on CC) said it best. Any college counselor who doesn't recommend ED or SCEA should be fired for professional incompetence. Sorry, ED at Pton is the way to go by a long shot if you can live with ED consequences.

just to clarify, my son is applying early decision. FYI Hes indian and from new jersey.

hmmmm....I guess the adcom at my info session was trying to sugarcoat it then. I am defintely applying ED regardless (I don't see why not: I love Pton and would definitely go there if offered the chance) but I was under the impression that ED didn't significantly alter your chances.

Thanks for the statistic, I'll check that book out.

Sigh...another Indian from NJ...

Though I really didn't expect to be the only one...or two...or two hundred...
