When is the college issue supposed to come out? I just found out that our subscription JUST ended, which is...a bit problematic, as I'm a rising senior >_<

I'm panicking a bit. Is this ever sold in stores? Is there anywhere online where people may scan certain pages and put up :P? lol
(I'm too spoiled by Kpop fangirls who scan and put up all magazine spreads online hahah)

So yeah lol, those 2 questions: 1) when does it come out 2) what can I do to get a copy???? :P
(not cos I freak out so much about the ratings, it's just a very good resource)

lol, rankings don't change much every year. they most often follow their 20+ year averages. don't worry, its not like academics change that much in a single year. its not like one single entire freshman class would change the rankings... of course not lol.

I heard it comes out August 22nd, and i heard the magazine itself may be in stores couple days earlier than that.

To lend a bit of perspective: the US News rankings may be interesting, but I would not call them a good or reliable or valid resource.

The rankings are misleading and serve as a business mechanism to sell more magazines and to ‘market’ colleges rather than illuminating true quality and educational value. The rankings also add stress to the college application process, drive people into a frenzy, and sell the US News magazine. (So, of course, they will be sold on newsstands.)

Critics have charged that U.S. News intentionally changes its methodology every year so that the rankings change and they can sell more magazines.

The National Opinion Research Center, one of the largest and most highly respected social research organizations in the US, found that the statistical weights used by U.S. News to rank colleges/universities “lack any defensible empirical or theoretical basis.”

It's common knowledge how the statistics can be "gamed." Colleges can solicit applications from students with little chance of acceptance to boost how selective they appear. Schools can adjust when they allow faculty to take leave in order to raise the faculty/student ratio.

More colleges are refusing to fill out the US News survey.

To clarify: hwen I say good resource, I don'tmean the rankings, I mean the info on the sides on SAT and stuff. yes I know big books have that too, but I like the condensation in a small magazine, kwim? :)

Oh and renewing might not be fast enough, I asked my mom she said it'll be like 3-4 weeks or something. idk.

But thanks, sounds like it'll just be at the store eh? hahaha. so much for my panic

I have the USNEWS & WORLD REPORT ULTIMATE COLLEGE GUIDE purchased at Borders (in addition to about 4-5 other college guides). Remember to bring an on-line coupon to the store!

It is worth the money. Over 1700 pages.
Over 300 pages in the beginning of the book with all the rankings of schools, lists with merit info, etc. Many, many pages to sift through and bookmark for reference. Also has every college major listed with those colleges that offer it (which none of my other books has.)

I highly recommend you purchase this if you want more comprehensive info (and I love my Fiske and 357 Best College books too but this book has everything in it!!
