Yesterday, I visited Brown for a few hours, which is only about an hour or so from my summer home. First major thing I did, with my father talking to a financial aid person, I somehow managed to get a session with someone from admissions. Basically, I got the impression, at least from what she said, that they care more about the students themselves, not per say grades. And for those that weren’t sure about SAT II’s, I was told that two in any subject are required. She also mentioned the most important factor was classwork and your grades throughout the year. Next, I took the tour of campus. You got to choose your tour guide out of 3. I can’t remember everything, but some items I remembered:

One of the most prominent things mentioned is a lack of core curriculum at first, he called it “shopping for classes.” Apparently, you don’t need to select a definitive major until the 4th semester.
Classes are smaller then most, the average student to teacher ratio was 9:1, 88% of classes had under 50 students, and only five total classes had 100
Brown students seem to be pretty liberal, they even nicknamed one of their “sacred libraries” the John.
There are a crap load of clubs, including an acapella singing group based on pirates.

Finally, I got to talk to the director of disability services, due to my Asperger’s/autism. If by some chance you apply there but have a disability, they will treat you well there. In some cases, you may even be able to get a two room dorm or your individual room. She mentioned that Brown seems to pride itself in those who were an outcast in school.

Overall, my impression of Brown was very positive, and at this point, this school is on my list, and will probably be my number 1 school as far as quality I apply to. If you plan on applying, I HIGHLY reccomend you visit, you will enjoy it thoroughly. :)
