haha, yeah, my sn is the most obvious probably, it’s my email and a bunch of other things… Ethyl, I just friended you. haha, I still need to send the money I owe you.

Rube Goldberg (Type in WUSTLEngineering) it should be there? ) It was the Engineering Scholarship Design Challenge that we had to do.

Acolombian…were u a prospect or a student? So I can place you, I am the guy. Yes. I am that guy.

@ the OP: Thanks so much for this post—it was such a relief to read. I just heard back from the Ivies and was denied at Dartmouth, Princeton and Cornell, and waitlisted at Brown. I was really hoping to be accepted at Dartmouth (I was a deferred ED applicant), so I was pretty disappointed, until I read your post! Wash U sounds like an awesome school and I can’t wait to visit in a week!

Hello everyone. I posted the OP on this thread.

I ended up getting into Brown and am waitlisted at Yale. Yale was my first choice, but quickly became second choice after I visited the Wash U campus. I am sending in my enrollment to Wash U later this week after I choose housing information! I really wanted to get accepted at Yale, just so I can tell them “sorry, I’m going to Wash U over you” Oh well… at least I can tell that to a couple other Ivies!

I can’t wait to meet all of you in FOUR MONTHS!

Is anyone else in the same boat as me? What other schools are you turning down for Wash U?

FHN_dent: I ended up getting a Partial scholarship for the program I went to campus for, and a small amount of need based financial aid. About half of the tuition will be covered, which is pretty solid. There is some loans, but nothing that can’t be paid off rather expediently. My parents were hoping for just a little bit more I think, but then again, they were hoping for full-tuition scholarship, haha.

hehe I was being slightly facetious because your posts are really optimistic about WashU so i figured that they must be paying you. Only visited once, but hopefully I can soon share your enthusiasm after multicultural weekend.

I’m turning down some loser schools for WashU: University of Missouri, Tulsa, and Arkansas.

My visit was good, but not quite so magical. The students in the dorm I was staying in were not tremendously exciting… they sat around watching comedy central for 3+ hours… but other than that, I had high expectations and wasn’t disappointed.

BtheB- you can’t expect college students to be exciting 24/7 lol.

There are times when I completely vege out like that, but others when I have true “college moments.”
However, those usually happen after the hours of 3am, and all of the prefrosh I’ve hosted have gone to sleep well before then.

BtheB44: I’m in a similar situation. I had really high expectations going in my visit last week. From reading these forums and talking to friends, I hadn’t heard one bad thing about the university. But I don’t really think Wash U lived up to my expectations. I stayed in the Village, and we did just about the same thing, watch South Park for several hours. Definitely not the most interesting college visit I’ve had. Granted, it was on a Wednesday night, but I didn’t really witness any other “college” activities during my visit (such as a pick up game of ultimate). I am still attracted to Wash U, because I loved the campus, and I feel that I got an inaccurate portrayal of the place. But I still wish that my visit lived up to my expectations so that I could enroll confidently, rather than hesitantly. I almost want to schedule a second visit to Wash U in late April and stay in the South 40 rather than the Village. Is that completely unheard of, to visit the same school twice simply because I didn’t get a good impression in my first visit? I mean, my visit last week was completely paid for, and I only spent 5 dollars the whole trip for some extra food, so I would really only be spending my own money for one visit, even if I visited twice.

I saw lots of people playing on the middle field today. Soccer. Couldn’t tell why. Maybe a make-up game for IM soccer? But it was REALLY, really nice today. Loved it.

I definitely think the Village and the South 40 are very different atmospheres. The Village has more upperclassmen (+ some freshman transfers) so a lot of times, people in the Village stay in a lot more… (some people don’t even have to leave their building to get food since there is a dining place in the lobby of one of the buildings.) Also, by the time that people end up in the Village, people are rooming with their friends or close to their friends already so the people they hang out with are in the same place or close to each other.

In contrast, the South 40 does tend to be more active, there are people back and forth between Bear’s Den. There’s a basketball court that tends to get used fairly often. But I do think the day that you come is very important. Obviously, as the week winds down, more and more people tend to relax a little.

waesei - given the magnitude of your investment in money, time, and your future, another visit is not at all out of line, if you can arrange it. I would only caution that it would be very close to finals, and so might not be very representative either. I will leave that for current students to support or correct. But in principle, you have every right and obligation to try and make sure this is the right decision for you.

Having said that, I do suspect that all these posts cannot be wrong. And while there is some self selection as to who posts here, I also don’t think that is a dominating factor in this case either. My D completely enjoyed her 2 days at Wash U for Discovery weekend a while back. While she is going elsewhere, it had nothing to do with Wash U and how great she thought it was. Just another anecdote for you, for what it is worth.

I was there a couple weekends ago and it was beautiful outside, so there was ultimate frisbee, soccer, football, and basketball going on. Then there was a freak snowstorm out of nowhere, and on my way back to the dorm I saw a few parties going on in the dorms, one having a small rager on a balcony haha. The next day at about noon there was a snowball fight… What I am trying to say is that your day you got bad luck because it was a wednesday in the village. I think if you came when I did, WashU would have lived up to, and perhaps even surpassed, your expectations. Really hope this helps because I can’t imagine myself going anywhere but WashU and I hope you decide to come :)

I’d just like to note that my experience was in a dorm in the south 40, and that the students I was with were all freshman, so you can’t totally attribute it to that… not to hate on Wash U, it is a great school even though my visit left me with a greater range of quality of experiences than I would have liked.
