my weird obsession

I agree. Or take the tour, just to get oriented as to where everything is, then wander around for a few hours. MIT isn't that big, mileage-wise, but it has lots of nooks and crannies. After three years here, sometimes I still go exploring and walk through floors and buildings I've never seen before.

If it's hot and you don't want to walk, the #1 bus is a terribly convenient way to get from there to here.

But going with a big group will be a different kind of experience.

you could bring along your fellow ssp students. a friend of mine from high school was at ssp last year, i brought here down and introduced her to some friends...she ended up bringing more of hers and spent more time at ec last summer than i did, and she's still in touch with people i know. i'm sure you're not the only prospective mit applicant in that set.

[personal ramble]i took the official visit route when i was in hs, and learned absolutely nothing useful about mit. i didn't have the chance to bum around campus on my own, and when it came time to finally decide, i actually really didn't want to go here. i showed up thinking this was a mistake, albeit one that probably wouldn't hurt me much in the long run. is it likely that spending a night in a dorm or exploring campus some weekend would've taught me the things i'd've liked to know? maybe, but it couldn't've hurt. probably you don't need convincing to come here, but i've always felt that having more knowledge of a situation is never a bad thing.[/personal ramble]

To be honest, I don't think I'll be applying to MIT. Physics really isn't my thing, my worse subject to be exact. So I wouldn't really say I'm a 'MIT prospective student.' I'm just someone who happens to <3 Tim! Go Beavers!

I googled up Tim, and I got so jealoused of the people that got to hug + and take pictures with him!! Tim = stunningly cute

come on taffyluchia please dont get jealous. its just a stupid mascot.

Tim is NOT just a mascot. He is the spirit and love of all MIT profs, alums, students, and I. And of course, Tim is the cutest mascot ever created by men.

He is the...love of all MIT...students
um, i can think of a few people who might have something to say about that :P

its just a stupid mascot.

Tim is NOT a stupid mascot!!!!!

believe me. it is.

no it's not. it's a BRILLIANT mascot. totally.

Grad'06, quit antagonizing taffyluchia. If taffyluchia wants to love the mascot, that is fine and it is not your problem.

molliebatmit -- thx <3 By the way, you probably get to be with Tim a lot since you're a cheerleader!

Actually, my sole encounter with Tim was at the class of 2005 ring premiere (which doesn't make much sense since I'm class of 2006, but there you have it).

There was a guy who would have been class of 2008 that we [the cheerleaders] met at Campus Preview Weekend last year, and he was psyched about being the mascot (apparently he had been in high school), but he either didn't come to MIT or decided against mascotting. It's too bad... it would be fun to have the mascot at the games.

I guess I'll make this a weak ad for the cheerleaders -- class of 2009! Come be the mascot! It will be awesome!

Come on ppl, have tech spirit!

MIT students can rent the beaver for events. I don't know if you rent a person in the costume or just the costume, but there were a lot of advertisements for it on tables around MIT. It's like $100 for a day.

And during the year, the beaver is always hanging around building 10 giving out pencils and shaking hands as students walk through the infinite.

from the cac website about renting the mascot, you can rent the costume, but have to supply someone to be inside it.

What's the point of this thread? Okay, so you like the mascot. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but start a fansite or something. Also tech spirit != loving tim, necessarily. I agree.. he is just a mascot.

Somebody rolled out of the wrong side of bed...
