Nanjing Massacre

@BestMiler1....w t f, I know things like this happened, but the U.S. covering it up is just despicable

i think every history class (especially in middle school... they do nothing in middle school) should spend time studying these different massacres and why they happened... from this to Mao's to Pol Pot... the list is horribly long. [darn 20th century]

@surge.....agreed

My high school once had a class that studied such topics, but was cancelled within a year.
I am also surprised that no one has mentioned the war in 1971 between Pakistan and Bangladesh, which saw the worst rape atrocities on record, particularly at Dhaka and Rajshahi.

Victims of Communism (anti-religion)

30-40 million deaths under Stalin
40+ million deaths under Mao Zedong

Not to forget Pol Pot.

Pol Pot's regime killed between 1.5 to 2.3 million people between 1975-1979. By some accounts, nearly one out of every eight Cambodians was murdered. The regime targeted Buddhist monks, Western educated intellectuals, individuals with glasses, and ethnic Laotians and Vietnamese.

edit: I think the stalin numbers are a little underestimated because it doesn't take account the huge famine that stalin caused due to forced economic stagnancy.

And Idi Amin, with his nearly six million Ugandans done in, or Renamo's killing of 1.3 million Mozambicans, and perhaps the war in Sierra Leone, of which no toll is yet known.

Saddam Hussein (Iran 1980-1990 and Kurdistan 1987-88): 600,000

Does anyone still agree we shouldn't have taken this pig out of power?

^ We should also have taken Stalin out of power, eh?

We did stop the spread of communism. Containment. Policy. Vietnam. Korea.

Vietnam. Korea.

No, in fact Korea is more powerful communist nation today that it was 50 years ago. And in Vietnam, we lost the war, so the ENTIRE country is now communist.

I meant stopping the spread of communism. Was that not achieved? We're talking about real communism backed by the USSR. The objective in Vietnam: To stop the Spread of communism and rub one off in the eyes of the USSR. I believe N. Korea is not as powerful as then, if they were, they would have conquered S. Korea as originally intended, have they? So far, Communism has failed every country, the only threat ever imposed on the U.S. was the Soviet Union, which collapsed in the 90s. Communism does not work. :)

The only reason N. Korea hasn’t conquered S. Korea is because they fear US retaliation, but this hasn’t made N. Korea any less communist. In fact, now that they have biological weapons and might even have nuclear weapons, the possibility of them taking over the entire Korean peninsula is even greater.

Communism practiced by the USSR and its ally nations is nothing like communism as originally proposed by Marx and Engels. Complete equally indeed.

We didn’t really stop “communism” either. The USSR collapsed as a result of internal poverty and therefore it wasn’t feasible of them to spread their “doctrine” when they couldn’t even feed their own people. Had the USSR been as wealthy as the United States, the Cold War would probably still be going on today.

Yeah. Anyone familiar with the Containment Policy?

N. Korea cant conquere S. Korea.

Kim Jong-Il is nothing. That fat-ass should go to hell.

yeah, of course... US "containment" of the Soviet Union tactic during the Cold War. they created economic and diplomatic support for the areas the USSR was about to go to (so they couldn't gain any more territory or support).

Yes

They almost did in the Korean War. If it wasn’t for MacArthur, Korea would have been another failure like Vietnam.

Speaking of which, if the Chinese hadn’t intervened, Korea would have been a success. No Kim Il-Jong’s.

I believe this is self-explanatory

Not anymore tho. They're too powerful.
