are/would they be undebatably (sp?) mandatory, though?

In our unit we're required to wear them with our CNT uniform...they often ask us to pull up our trousers to show them during inspection.

When we don't have inspection, we can get away with not wearing them with our khaki utilities...SDBs are the easiest since you're wearing the jacket...but the most common uniform of the day is the CNT.

Idiocy. Bureaucratic idiocy....

Bostonusmc,

The higherups feel that the "plebe summer" at NAPS had degenerated into hazing. A midshipman at USNA told me they were no longer going to do it because of this. Personally, he had his letters ripped up.

While Zaphod feels that having a letter ripped up is minor, one of my dad's enlisted personnel threw a letter overboard once. He was thrown in the brig. The destruction of mail is not something the Navy kindly looks upon.

It's not minor, but it's NOT hazing.

So what are they going to do at NAPS when the M/C's arrive, then? Hand out Mai-Tai's?

Just because the system was broken doesn't mean you dump the system. You make it right.

This smacks of political corrctness and other touchy-feely BS that has so emasculated our military.

I still remember the class of 1994 hiring lawyers by the boatload when a bunch of them got nailed CHEATING, as if they didn't know what would happen.

Don't get me started!

I'm with you Zaphod, I may not like Indoc when going through it, but i mean, hey, it IS still a military school. I would not feel comfortable wearing the uniform having not earned that right. The whole POINT of NAPS is to prepare you for the MENTAL, PHYSICAL, and MORAL standards of USNA.

thanks for the info Archie44!

A friend of mine who is a M/C at NAPS told me that he heard that they were only shortening Indoc from three weeks to two. I'm hoping this is true. . .

Indoc was three weeks when I went (1986), but only two weeks were with the midshipmen. The third week was with our own new stripers.

If they ditched the third week, that's no biggie, because most of that was marching from Point A to Point B, attending training sessions with the assigned senior enlisted, and going to PEP.

The two previous weeks, though, were pretty damned intense, as they should be. I will not accept without evidence the idea that the M/C's will just waltz onto NETC and go straight to class. No way. The kids coming from High School MUST undergo an indoctrination period to snap them out of being a bunch of dripping civilian slime and putting them on the road to being warriors. You don't do that by being nice; you do it by lighting a fire and pushing them into it.

I totally agree. I also got great news today. My dad is getting his orders in JULY! This means he won't be deployed for I-day!!

NAPS06: that is great news- he will be the proudest parent on I-Day as he cheers you on! And no doubt there will even be a tear or two glistening in his eye as you take the same Oath of Office! What a wonderful moment!

I just received an email from future M/C Delgado (NAPS2007) that he received from a member of the command at NAPS. It says that the NAPS Indoc will begin on 8 August 2006

Man I agree with Zaph. People are getting to god damn namby-pamby about this stuff. Hazing is a tradition of the service academies. There used to be great men coming out of there and no there are more pansy's than I can count. I agree some people before have gone too far. But come on, if you can't talk a little mind @#$! then how are you going to perform under fire, or in my own personal case, when you have to respond as the medical personnel when your friend takes his 9mm to his head. Get a grip and take some pain. Yes I will probably complain during a beat down just as much as everyone else does. But you know what. If I can perform under those conditions it is more likely that I will be able to perform under other stress related conditions. I say take it back to the late 60's and early 70's. My father is a 72' grad so I know the stories. There were many fine officers those years.

Anyways enough of my ranting and raving. Hope everyone is well and best wishes.

Today i just turned 17!!! I am officially the minimum age to go to NAPS!! WOOOOOHOOOO!
