**** test? what test is this?

In regards to the extra points to the gpa: U get 5 extra points for advanced? what is the highest possible gpa u can achieve then if u take all advanced classes?

^^^^

That's a question you need to ask your high school counselor who knows your school and its grading system way more than we do.

We don't do points at our school (we're on a 4.0 system), but we do give extra "points" for gaining an A in an Honors or AP class (A=5.0, B=4.0, C=3.0 D=1.0, because it doesn't get any weighted credit F=0.0, also doesn't get any weight credit). So, in theory, if you had all AP Classes and managed to get all A's, then one would be able to get a 5.0 gpa at my school.

And just so you get a real life idea of what it's like at my school, this past semester, I took a heavy hit and got all B's and a D in AP Calculus and wound up with a 3.17 GPA (I have 4 AP/Honors classes)

Just to add to Navysailor's post, NAPS does give you every chance to make it here. We have at least two study periods a day and from 1900 to 2130 we have mandatory silent and group study. During these periods there are Supplemental Instructors (other teachers) in Ripley Hall (barracks) and we can always meet with members of the faculty in Nimitz Hall (admin building). During the night people routinely meet with the Physics, Chem, English, and Math SIs in the conference rooms on our decks.

Also, directly after class there is an hour of Extra Instruction that is optional...this is a very good opportunity, take advantage of it. If anything, just make yourself very familiar to the instructors, because when you're standing in front of a Dean's Board or an Academy Board, they'll review if you go to EI, SI, or if the teacher sees you around a lot.

the gpa question was in regards to gpa at NAPS

oh lol my mistake then =P

in terms of GPA, the highest you can get is a 4.5, I think... At naps, a 4.0 is an A, 3.0 B, 2.0 C, and anything below a 2.0 is a D...

If you get a 90 in any class, then you recieve a 4.0. And it goes down from there. I had an 80 in physics, which a 3.0, and being in advanced physics, it brought my grade from a 3.0 to a 3.5. So it helped alot.

In regards to the placement test, you will take it during indoc. It consists of a Math portion, Physics Portion, Chem Portion, and for english, its a reading, and then you have to write a short essay. People either choose to bomb the placement test or do as best as they can on it. If you bomb on purpose, its not going to hurt grade, you will just be stuck in all foundation classes. People choose to bomb it because they don't want to be challenged as much, and they just want to coast through NAPS with easy grades. If you try your best, your probably going to get put in intermediate classes, and maybe an advanced class, it all depends. If you challenge yourself, you'll be more prepared for the academy, trust me. You might not get amazing grades, but when your a plebe, chances are you would do alot better than someone who chose not challenge themselves.
