Horrendous of course. From what I gather though it was short lived with excellent response time from police within 15 minutes. The shooter was transgender female.

I find it interesting that the national news media sites are leaving out the fact that the shooter is transgendered. It’s in the local news reports, though.
And the shooter was 28 yr old. That’s a long time to hold a grudge.
Horrible situation for everyone involved. It’s terrible.

Super sad, extremely mad.
The shooter is human and took human life - that is all that matters. Not gender, not age, not color of skin.
May the arms of this community be around the victims families and all the students, teachers, staff and their families of this school.

Just listened to three different natl newscasts and all reported that it was a transgender shooter. Takes time to confirm these things.

Now, what I really want to say …
I’m so angry. Called ds to make sure he was OK as he lives less than three miles from the shooting. This is the same ds who was at Route 91.
This picture tells it all.
Although I agree that it doesn’t matter the gender or color or other characteristics of the shooter.
It’s giving some clarity if the shooter was maybe bullied at this school. It might give some motivation. Her experience at this school that she attended. Maybe before she transitioned. We don’t know her story. Just that she came into the school she attended.
And it’s very common for mass shooters to be young and male. Do we know of any mass shooters that were female? Of course she was female. But transgender does put a different spin of this situation. To me.
Trying to understand something that’s really not understandable.
Of course the shooter is human. It’s a terrible tragedy.

Who cares that the shooter was trans, she was able to get guns and kill children at school. That is the issue. I read earlier today that Tennessee has moved to make it easier for people to get rifles, imagine if those guns didnt exist?

I have really limited info on what happened. I did not know the shooter previously attended the school.
My view is that we should not have to “make sense” of any shooting. It happened and people are dead and families are forever broken. I really can’t imagine any situation that makes that ok.

Unfortunately gender matters. It didn’t til 5 or 7 years ago. Not to get political but all this stuff came out of the blue.
Not sure a motive is known. Perhaps it’s not related.
But our society, our elected leaders, especially in TN, are unfortunately filled with hate. And we keep voting em in.

In the shock-able age of gun culture, they wore photos of murdered children and adults.
In the normalize age of gun culture, senators wear pins of their favorite weapon, and are reelected easily.

I’ll assume that this thread will stay clear of political discussion since this is outside the politics forum. And really, for this forum, let’s move off of discussion of the shooter being trans.
Aside from that, “transgender” is the correct word. "“Trans” is also acceptable; "transgendered’ is not. One does not say that Adam Lambert is gayed or that Rosie O’Donnell is lesbianed. And it’s an adjective, not a noun. Caitlin Jenner is a transgender person (or transgender woman or trans person/woman), not a transgender.
