The USNA Alumni Assocation has forwarded the message below as requested by
USNA Admissions Office for widest distribution.

On February 1, 2008, the United States Naval Academy began online
application for current juniors (current high school class of 2009) to apply
for our Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS) Program. If you are not fully
familiar with our NASS Program, it is a six day immersion program that runs
the first three weeks of June in three sessions:
(Sessions I - 5/31 to 6/5, II 6/7 to 6/12, III - 6/14 to 6/19).

Participating in each session will be 740 of the nations top rising seniors!
We want to get the word out to the best and brightest around the United
States to come to NASS and hopefully become a midshipman at USNA! We need
your help reaching these young men and women and encouraging them to
participate in NASS this summer!

Direct your candidates for NASS to our online application at:

Go Navy!!!

I was wondering if they still do the fitness test at NASS...the one with the basketball throw, shuttle run, etc.? My son went in Summer 2005 and I think that all he had to do was the run, push-ups, and sit-ups. He spent a couple of months getting ready for the basketball throw (harder to do than it looks). The reason I ask is because my daughter has applied for a spot this summer. She swims and does push-ups/pull-ups/sit-ups as part of her training, so is all set there....I'm just wondering if I need to break out the basketball again :).
Thanks
Rick

Break out that basketball! During my daughter's time at NASS 2007 (session 2), they did BOTH the CFA (b-ball throw, pullups/flexed arm hang, shuttle run, pushups, situps, mile run), and the fitness assessment mids and officers do (pushups, situps, 1.5 mi run). That CFA score will automatically be submitted as part of the "final" USNA application, so encourage her to make sure she is ready to do her best. In my daughter's group, all females were asked to try a real pullup during the CFA, followed by an arm hang if unsuccessful on the pullup. (If you search these threads, I believe someone who did not do well on the CFA took it again after more practice, but it's done pass/fail unless someone maxes one or more parts)

Yes, the CFA is completed at NASS, and in past 2 years, it's been done early in the week, as I recall ... maybe Sunday? It's pass/fail, and one can resubmit scores.

Thanks for the info.....I'm not worried about pull-ups, push-ups, etc. My daughter is a swimmmer and can do 15+ pull-ups last I knew...but she's not a ball sport type of person, so you're correct....I'll need to break out the basketball :)
Thanks
Rick

My youngest just applied to NASS. Are they increasing the participants this year? It seems like a higher number than in previous years.

It looks that way. When my son went 2 years ago, they had 600 per session...I think that the number is a little higher this year (650 per session if I'm reading the web site correctly).

Has anyone heard anything yet? I know after I applied to West Point Summer Seminar , I found out right away.

I think they send out letters in March or April hmmm

NASS manual says all applicants will be informed of their selection status by April 15

Most acceptances were in the mail around the middle of march last year. I applied feb. 1 at midnight and got mine on march 25th or something. It sucks waiting, but thats all part of the process.

ditto. submitted on midnight 1 feb and received acceptance at the beginning of spring break which is the 2nd or 3rd week in march.

I'm sure you have all heard this before, but if you don't get accepted to NASS you should still keep trying to get an appointment to the academy. I was rejected from NASS last spring. I currently have a congressional nomination, and am waiting for a waiver from DODMERB. I almost didn't apply after I got rejected by NASS but some veterans on this forum told me to keep going. Thanks for the advice guys!

I just got my Naval Academy Summer Seminar acceptance in the mail. West Point sent me a rejection letter like a week after I applied, in late December. I haven't heard from the Air Force yet.
