Hi have your children ever taken National Frech Contest before? how difficult is to get the national awards? my child currently is in French 1, if he participate the contest next year in French 2, and do get award in French 2, is the level still too low to impress college? thank you

My kid participated in the national French and Spanish exams for several years–our HS started having kids take the test at the French/Spanish 2 point–but I have no idea what level is required to impress colleges, to tell you the truth. I assume that doing well enough to get state or national placement is a plus on anyone’s resume.

Thank you, Consolation; it is wonderful that your HS having kids take the test; our HS has never done this before, and we just heard about it. My child is thinking about participating in the contest next year; he is in sophomore year now, in French 1; next year he is take French level 2 if he try; but he is a bit concerned that level 2 is too low…

Is it worth taking the test as a graduating senior? It’s really just to impress colleges, right?

lrcc55, kids are only compared to others in the same category. So your S could take it every year.

ocflav, well, it gives HSs an idea of how their program is doing compared to others. Some kids are motivated by it to try to excel. If you are interested in finding out how you stack up, you could take it.
