National Merit and MIT

I have 2 questions. I am a NMSF and am in the process of completing the NMF app, and we have to name our first choice institution.... MIT is my first choice, but I'm not sure that MIT gives money for NMF status, so if someone could clear that up it would be great. Also, do schools see what you listed as your first choice on the NMF application? If they do then I will list MIT (because it really is my first choice) but if not, then a state school I applied to gives money only to students listing them as 1st choice, and if I go there I would probably need scholarships. I am pretty confused as to what goes on with this whole NMF selection process, not many kids ever get to NMSF status at my school, so it isn't really well known where I am from.

Sorry if this is a confusing question. Thanks guys.

MIT doesn’t give money for NMSF, and you’re better off listing the state school as your first choice. As far as I’m aware, schools can see if you’ve listed them as your first choice, but can’t see what you have listed if you haven’t listed them as first choice.

MIT doesn’t care about demonstrated interest in any way, and they will not give it a single fleeting thought that you haven’t listed them as your first choice for NM.

Thanks for the clarity. My son is in a similar situation.

My state schools don’t care about NMF either.
