Does anyone here know if the OOS tuition waiver is automatic with a departmental scholarship? Thanks!
@gsckmom what college? They are very difficult to get through Engineering. Read more here:

Engineering. Oh, well. She got a very generous scholarship. If it had come along with a waiver, it would have covered the full COA which would have been incredible!
Consider yourself lucky if you received a generous scholarship. Many students don’t even get that.
My son was admitted OOS to both UT and TAMU engineering last year. NMF, 2320 SAT (best sitting), National AP Scholar as a sophomore, 3.83/4.0 GPA from the number two high school in the U.S, Yadda, Yadda. He was offered scholarships by both Purdue and Michigan. Texas A&M gave him the full NMF package, so basically we would be responsible for room and board. A big goose-egg from Texas. And TAMU showed him a lot of love on his visit, Texas seemed pretty indifferent to whether he came or not. I’m surprised that a system with a $25 billion endowment is not more generous.
Anyway, my son in loving A&M.
@Beaudreau you make a strong case for A&M.
A&M shows a LOT of love for NMF. Honors college (with all the benefits), leadership seminar in Italy and scholarships (multiple stacking)! No indifference but a warm and friendly welcome every single time.
It’s not like NMF is based only on PSAT score. One has to also have a high SAT score, high performance throughout high school (usually means no C’s), essay, challenging course schedule, school recommendation (no disciplinary issues), etc…
Besides those scoring in the top 1% on this test are kids that have usually not had time to prepare for the test (which helps identify innate intellectual potential). Unlike the SAT where so many take it multiple times with expensive tutoring to raise scores. So, I don’t understand why UT does not show some love.
