National Merit Finalist Award letters

@nhuphill Congrats to your daughter! Hoping to get similar news about my son in the mail soon.

No rejection letter, but no confirmation letter in today’s mail either- was today their given date, or am I mistaken?

call NMSC. They are very cordial. 847-866-5100

The letters were to be mailed today so you wouldn’t receive it for a day or two, but as rani0033 and nuphill indicated, NMSC will now confirm over the phone.

Called NMSC yesterday. We homeschool and had not received anything yet as the “principal/counselor”. They stated letters to schools had been mailed to schools January 30th and we should receive letter any day. The gentleman I spoke with looked up our daughter for us. He confirmed that our daughter is a finalist. So glad the wait is over! Good luck to everyone.

We’re homeschoolers as well and have not heard anything, I suppose I could wait until Saturday or Monday, but I’ll probably call tomorrow just to give us a good weekend  Since we never got a rejection letter, I assume it’s safe to say she made the cut.

Another homeschooler here…called and confirmed just now! Finalist! :D
Congrats to all!

Hi there!

I have an update letter that I’m planning on sending to colleges and I was hoping to include being named a NMF as one of my updates. My HS doesn’t seem to have received anything regarding anyone’s status yet. If I haven’t received a rejection letter, is it safe to assume that I’m a part of the 93% who advanced to Finalist status, or should I wait? The office won’t reopen until Monday and I’d really like to send out my letter by tomorrow!

Thanks so much!

You cant do an update for something you are not sure.

All right, I guess I’ll just wait then. Here’s to hoping that a 231 makes the cut.

NMF letter came in today’s mail. We are in a Western suburb of Chicago.

Anybody in NY get it yet? I didn’t… :(.

We did not receive it in Michigan yet. Since NMSC is in Chicago area, so it is not a surprise to see someone in Chicago received it first.

I got one so far! (from Stuy)

I’m pretty sure your letter will come soon.

This may not be the best place to ask this, but can anyone tell me why schools are notified before the finalists themselves? It bothers me that my GC probably knows my status while I don’t, and she hasn’t told me anything (which is not a surprise, considering the fact that she witheld my SF status from me until the media release date back in the fall).

My daughter’s came in the mail yesterday. (Ohio)

We have not heard about our status. Counselor said that she would notify DS when the letter came, but a winter storm came through Kansas and snow days have kept DS out of school since Feb 3 and had a scheduled day off on Fri. S and husband not concerned, but I am crazy in waiting. Thanks for the sound board.

My school delivered to me a letter from the country board of supervisors congratulating me for being a “National Merit Scholar.” But I haven’t received a Finalist letter yet. Counselor said it was legit. Anyone else have any ideas?

You could call NMSC tomorrow. Some of the posters have reported good results with that.

I’m sorry if this question has already been covered, but in order to win the $2500 scholarship, do I need to actually list a college as my first-choice? Currently, I haven’t made a selection, and would like to know if I can still win the award.
