My son asked the college counselor, and she said he was a finalist. No certificate or letter, just verbal. I still want to see it in writing!!
Our son received his acceptance letter today! he was also accepted to the National Society of High School Scholars today. Now to congratulate him and tell him he still needs to complete some scholarship applications. Minnetonka , MN
No letter in Austin.
Nothing in CA. Anyone in Santa Clara receive notification?
No letter or notice from HS in NJ
Considering that it took the letter two days to get here from Evanston, which is more time than it would take to walk the letter over, I’m not surprised that it’s taking more than a couple of days to get out of state.
We haven’t heard from the school yet, but they like having everything just so before they make an announcement or contact parents. They do mess up, though. My daughter received an award from the school, and didn’t even know about it. She wasn’t even notified about the awards ceremony, and only heard about the award when the adviser for her club told her congratulations, to which my daughter responded “for what?”, “for the award”, “which award?”, “the XXX award”, “the what?” (I witnessed it, since I was picking her up). The school somehow forgot to notify her that she had won this award, and that there would be a ceremony for handing out certificates.
Received the letter dated Feb 11,2019 today at home (West Houston area).
Just opened my letter (small envelope) today in New Orleans!!! Happy to be done waiting
Son’s Finalist letter received today in Kansas.
S19 opened his letter and is a finalist! I have to say, our family really didn’t really expect him to be named as a finalist since his transcript isn’t perfect. As a consequence, he did not focus particularly on schools where there are NM-related awards. So, while getting this letter today is very exciting and a huge honor … I assume it’s too late to consider applying to the schools that offer significant scholarships for NMF.
For those of you who know more about NM and/or have been through this process before, what should S19 do now? Should he notify the colleges about his NM recognition … 1) where admission decisions have already been made? 2) where his application is still under consideration?
I appreciate any insight anyone can offer. And, congrats to all!
seems likely too late but it’s worth calling the schools and asking if they will make an exception for scholarship consideration if he applies very quickly. Worse case is they can say no!
Homeschooled in Kansas and got mine today; really excited! (And also looking at Baylor RG, apparently in common with several others here, which is cool!)
@COMom2boys - I think some schools will still accept applications and provide NMF awards - check Alabama, etc where there are rolling admissions.
@COMom2boys Some are still open with great NMF packages, ex: UT Dallas, UCF, University of Oklahoma
@COMom2boys There is U of Arizona (full tuition+) accepting until May 1 with a brand new Honors Village to be opened in Fall 2019. UCF is another option.
U of Florida or other Florida schools would seem like an excellent idea as OOS scholarship (benaquisto) is administered by state and has no defined number of recipients You just have to name that school as the designated NMF school and you qualify, once your accepted.
S19 got his letter today in MI! One of his top two schools is Alabama, so this could make a pretty big difference for him. Congrats to all!
Son received letter at home today in Washington state. School has been closed due to snow for the better part of 2 weeks so we weren’t expecting to hear from them first.
Got the letter today. Surprised we got it before school notification, but ok. In the Carolinas.
We got a letter today too! Congrats to everyone!
