@COMom2boys , Please try for University of Southern Florida, Tampa , their application is due in march or April… They honor NMSC too…
@greendragons, The University of South Florida’s website says that they take applications until June. Not only does USF offer Total Cost of Attendance, like other Florida publics, but it throws in a year of grad school tuition. Although most people don’t know the USF name, USF is higher in the US News rankings than most of the other schools touted here on College Confidential including Bama and UCF.
Informed delivery saysletter arriving today in Maryland. ?
Principal at my school has the letters, but has not given to the students – I saw mine, but still waiting to "officially get it. (in Nevada)
I feel like this is uncommon enough that it is too identifying, but if I can’t share here, then where? There are three envelopes in the mail from NMSC for my house today. I have three kids and they share a birthday! I’m so proud of them and so happy for the many options this offers.
Congratulations! What a proud moment for you and the family! Thanks for sharing
.
Any info for St Louis, MO area?
Kramer and Newman must have found someplace to dump the muffin stumps because my daughter’s acceptance finally arrived here in PA.
Informed Delivery letter arriving today in Utah FINALLY!
My son got the news from school that he is a finalist. We are in Maryland.
School counselor just handed my daughter the card that she made NMF, and informed delivery shows the letter arriving in the mail today. She’s not applying to any of the schools that give you a tuition deal, but my husband works for a NM sponsor corporation. We are in NYC and not expecting much need-based aid so any award $ there might be would be very helpful!
Just got the good news from school’s website.
@gungablue Three letters? Wow. Congratulations!
Anyone receive news in South Carolina?
Received the letter in NJ! No notice from the school.
Received the letter in NJ! No notice from the school.
Received in Texas!
Does anyone know what kind of students tend to get the single payment $2500 scholarships? Does a high confirming SAT score matter that much? That is the only one that I am eligible for so I am very curious.
@COMom2boys We also did not apply to NMS schools! But it is a big honor, and my son is delighted to be recognized. Wondering the same thing you are… should he contact the schools where he applied (but where he has not heard from yet) and let them know? Or the ones he was accepted to? Or both?
My understanding is that the only criterion for becoming one of the winners of the $2500 scholarships is to be in the top half of all the finalists from an overall portfolio standpoint. Winners are proportional to state population too. That’s a way of saying it all matters - SAT, Grades, AP Classes, Extra Curriculars, Essay, recommendation letter, etc. But it also means that there are no guarantees - the entire finalist pool is compared against each other so a 1,600 SAT with a 3.5 GPA and no EC’s may lose out to a 1500 SAT with leadership skills and a killer essay, for example. I don’t know that anyone outside of the selection committee knows the specific weighting or formula. I’m also wondering if the pool for the $2500 award changes with the number of students that win a Corporate or College award (which takes them out of the running for the $2500 award). Since notifications are rolling from March to June, it seems like there must be some factor to see where everyone shakes out with corporate and college awards when kids make their number one choice so they keep working their way down the list of students to add $2500 winners until the money is all gone.
