My D got accepted into UF for class of 2024 with full ride being an OOS and a NMF. She got into their honors program as well. I contacted the financial aid office and inquired if it will truly be a full ride and they said they can only give you the award letter once you accept them as your #1 choice by 5/1/20. They don’t want to offer you the full ride and for you to decline the admission offer as it will create a mess involving the Benacquisto program. BTW, we signed up for the Florida Days in April because my D seriously wanted to consider the full ride offer from a great school but now that’s on hold. She said she cannot got to a university she has not visited so we shall see what happens.
@mattyho
My NMF son was also accepted to UF but not honors. He has great stats, great essays, lots of leadership, volunteering and ecs. I called admissions to ask about this and they said admissions has nothing to do with selecting for honors. My son goes to school with alot of NMFs and the only one that got honors was one of the kids who does almost nothing but study and can barely hold a normal social conversation. As a result, my son wants nothing to do with the Honors program anyway.
@Notmail There has been a lot of discussion on these boards regarding the Honors application process and the quality of the program itself. It is my opinion that this is a big weakness for UF and needs to be rehauled. Anecdotal feedback from students in the program is that it is rather pointless and the main benefit is being able to register for classes earlier than their peers. I imagine that the student gets out of it what he/she puts into it, so opinions will vary.
Hi. I’m chiming in for FU. My daughter would like to apply for Fall 2022, but I’m not understanding their current stance on NMF. Is it still viable? She’s a pre-med, national merit semifinalist right now. Thank you!
