Anyone get the good news yet??? Should be soon!

nope, only bad news. sent my letter today to NM asking them to reconsider

Are our schools supposed to notify us, or will we receive mail at home?

I heard that if you haven't heard anything from them yet, good news is coming.

Is a 198 a high enough score?

Notifications were sent to schools earlier this week -- they should arrive in the next day or so.

Students are notified also -- at their home addresses -- next week.

prmatin a 198 is not a high enough score for National Merit semifinalist. You can only be a finalist if you were a semi finalist first and you should have been notified already of being a semifnalist if you took the PSAT in 2007. If you took it in 2008 than that score isn't high enough to get semi anywhere I am aware of. Maybe semi in National Achievement or NAtional hispanic if you said you were black or hispanic.

I haven't heard anything yet. I hope musicmomic is right about next week, I want to find out soon :p

does anyone know what the oklahoma cutoff was? i got a 209 but im also a sophomore so it doesnt count but i want to see how i can improve... i need over a 220 i think to get into RSI next year.

RSI uses the PSAT only as a cutoff, not as a major factor in admissions. Make sure that you are active in science fairs/science olympiad teams to try to get in.

but yeah, Im still waiting on national merit news as well.

Our son received a certificate from his high school Principal on Friday (2/6) from the National Merit program saying that he has advanced to "finalist standing". We live on the West Coast.

I think at this point it probably depends less on the US Postal Service and more on what processes the school uses to record and issue the notice.

Principal emailed finalists Friday with a personal congrats.

Still waiting on the mail here. We know geek_son's NMF (no rejection letters, and all the stats are up there), but no word from the school office. But they didn't notify him of NMSF status either; we had to go to them to request his packet after we knew he'd cleared the cutoff for our state. No apology or explanation, and I think he wouldn't have received the packet at all (hence no chance at NMF) if we hadn't pressed it.

Don't know why they're not more on top of this; they make a big deal about scholarships and NM status, but it's been like pulling teeth. shrug At least we're well-informed, thanks to CC. :)

We haven't heard either. Very frustrating. As you say, pretty confident since we haven't heard he wasn't, but sure would like to get the official word. Any one heard by mail yet?

DSTDOR, which state in the west do you live?
do you mind sharing w/ us what the cutoff was?
i live in california.
thanks.

I'm in Ohio, and I've been stalking my mailman since last week, but I have still received nothing. I'm glad there are others out there, though.. I felt sure that I wasn't a finalist since I hadn't heard anything by now. No one in my school's administration has mentioned anything, nor have any of the other three Semi-Finalists at my school.

I saw that some of the finalists already were announced in the media. We should be hearing something soon!!!

I was notified today by my counselor that I am a Nat'l Merit Finalist. Hopefully I can get the actual money come March. Good luck all!

Notified! ^^

Question, are we responsible for informing our colleges that we made NMF? Or do we just presume they'll figure it out?
