hoping for a 196 to be commended...

is commended a national number?

^^^ Yes, only the semi finalist cut offs are by state.

my D is a 209 in cal as well...tough state!!! but I am proud of her non the less

it is amazing our school sends kids to some amazing schools but only has about 10 commended and 2 semi a year (of 350 juniors)

so both my kids being commened stood out

they down play the PSAT-

It looks like letters are starting to trickle in. Congrats to all who have heard. D's school gets the info first then mails it to us, so it looks like next week before she hears anything. PSAT was 224, state:TN

I got one!!!

222;MD

I got a letter too! 226, Nevada.

Should we start a list so it will be easier to figure out where people stand?
So far:

Letter,216, GA
Letter,222,Md
Letter,226, NV

I bet this list grows a lot next week! Congrats to all and good luck

Just to clarify - are we looking for a letter from the high school or from the College Board? or both?

Not that we are waiting anxiously by the mailbox or anything... :)

Has anyone out there recieved a letter for a score of 199? Please post it.
My son got a 210 as a sophomore, he retook it as a junior, but due to sickness and sleep deprivation his score dropped to 199, which is probably just a point short of commendation.

For those who received a letter - does it say what you are line to be recognized for? In other words, does it say you are now a semi-finalist, or are commended? Or does it just say that you are of the two...?

We don't need to track states at this time. Just trying to find out the lowest score to receive the letter. All we'll be able to figure out at this time is commended.

The letters do not specify what level of recognition you are - that will come in August/September.

nothing from texas..
i scored 222
(last year's texas SF cut was 215)

nothing from PA either. I also scored a 222.

Repeat of PRJ's question...where are the letters coming from?

The letter should orginate from the National Merit Corporation whether or not it gets sent to the school before winding up in the student's hands. Sorry for the confusion

Haven't heard anyhting yet...221 in Ohio...letter from Yale if that means anything. I have my guidance meeting tomorrow and we find out through our school so tomorrow I might hear.

Would a 221 in Ohio/99th percentile get me a semifinalist standing? Is it possible for the cutoff to jump from 215 to 221 in one year?

^ No I don't think the cutoff has ever increased or decreased by more than 5 points

231 in Texas; no letter. Oh well, none of the high scorers at my school have heard anything yet.

Hey Guys,

I got 199 and haven't received any notification. I know last year's cutoff was 200 so... do you guys think I made it or missed it by 1??? So nervous!
