I'm waiting to hear back about my aid statement from USC and I have not yet selected it as my first choice college. If I choose to do so by the deadline (probably before my May 1 admission deadline), I should be guarenteed the NMF Presidential Scholarship, correct?

I was wondering if the money won from this scholarship will be subtracted from the aid that I receive. i.e. (this is entirely hypothetical) If I receive 30,000 in aid from USC and the scholarship is worth 19,000, will they combine the two or lower my aid to 11,000 because 19,000 is covered by a scholarship?

We just got our Financial Aid Offer updated with the National Merit Scholarships included. Part of the NMS money reduced our grant. Part of it reduced a generic university scholarship. It completely eliminated his work study. But it also reduced our EFC by 2K. All in all, I can’t complain. We’re 2,000 fewer out-of-pocket than we were a week ago (without him working at all) and he can still get a non-workstudy job.

Congrats LegacyMom!! Can you please confirm the NM Presidential AND NMS $1,000 scholarships? There are students posting information on other threads here stating there is no 1K scholarship this year. Since it has always been part of the package, it would surprise us all if they changed things this year.

Thanks NCmom! You’ve always been so supportive! (Of course our EFC more than doubled when you consider I have 2 kids at USC, so I’m really worried about how S1’s package will look. But, for one child, the package is very reasonable.)

Yes, Camomof3, he did get both the Presidential Scholarship and the $1000 (which shows up as $500 per semester.)

Did you always have USC listed as your first choice? My son has had USC as his #1 since he first applied as a NM semifinalist back in Sept. Perhaps there will be a bit of a delay if you only recently listed USC as your top chioce?

They just update the Fin webpage today, I got 1/2 tuition, $1,000 from National Merit Corp, $2,000 from University award (orignal $3,750). They did reduce the University award,
that is sad. I was happy last week after I called the USC Fin, they said I got $3,700 on top of 1/2 tuition too. Now I have $3,000 instead.

Yeah I have had USC as my number 1 choice since I applied back in September. Several of my friends haven’t gotten it yet either so I’m just hoping they’re updating this in waves.

Hi,
We are anxiously waiting for National Merit Finalist award from USC. Wondering if you can share when you received the notice last year?
Thanks
