National Merit Scholar timing

How does the timing generally work with NMS and regular admission decisions?

My daughter is a semi-finalists and she doesn't want to apply anywhere early admission.

She put down one of her top choices for the school choice when she filed the NMS paperwork.

But I am concerned that she will
a) decide she prefers another school which has NMS $ for winners, finalists or semi-finalists and won't be able to get it since she indicated another school as her top choice, or
b) not get into that school and also lose her ability to get funds based on NMS finalist status from another school.

Should she change to undecided on National Merit Scholarship school choice? Does that protect her or will it make it impossible for her to get the funds based on indicating a school as her topic choice?

She has until some time in April to designate her final top choice. My daughter remained "undecided" until she actually did decide on which college to attend.

Some people seem to be indicating that some schools require you to designate the first-choice college early.

1) Is this true?

2) Will these colleges clearly state this on their websites (or is it fine print)?

3) You don't happen to know whether UF does this, do you?

It's true some colleges require you to designate them as the first-choice early. Ex. Boston U deadline is Feb 1
