<p>My son who is the semi-finalist has not heard any news yet, does it mean no news is good news so far in terms of the National Merit Scholarship finalist status? When will we finally receive the finalist status notification? </p>

<p>I heard they sent out the rejections a while ago (But don’t quote me on this, it’s something that I saw in a comment on this forum). Anyway, I’m positive that the vast majority of semifinalists who bother to complete the application reach finalist status.</p>
<p>15000 finalists out of 16000 NMSF’s. Apparently the “rejection” letters went out early January; by Feb. 2 they mail out Finalist letters to schools; Feb. 9, to the students.</p>
<p>I think NMSC is already in scholarship selection. If you haven’t been notified, you are most likely a finalist.</p>
<p>People reported getting their rejection letters about the second week in Feb (about a week to 10 days prior to MLK holiday Monday.)</p>
<p>Just so no one freaks out–mom2collegekids, you meant Jan rather than Feb, right?</p>
