During my freshman year, I was struggling with personal issues and my grades were affected as a result. These problems were mostly about self-image and self-esteem so they don't count as viable excuses for what happened, but I'm extremely worried and depressed because the half scholarship I got from being a National Merit Finalist is the only reason I've been able to afford college. I'm still waiting on my grade report but if my GPA falls below a 3.0, do I have at least another semester to bring up my grades or will I be terminated automatically?

If you have a “half scholarship” then that is from the SCHOOl, not NMCorp…so you need to find out what the school’s policy is. is this USC??

If not, which school is this?

It really depends completely on the school and the policy of the scholarship you received. The rules of the scholarship should be defined in the paperwork you received when you accepted the scholarship (and at many schools will be available online somewhere). I know at my daughter’s school the various tuition scholarships required students to meet the GPA and number of hours requirements by the end of the summer (or regular school year for some scholarships), so being below the required GPA after one semester was not a problem, but being below it when school started in the fall would lead to loss of the scholarship. At her school you could not earn back the scholarship once lost, even if you eventually raised your GPA. But your school will have their own rules and they will vary by scholrship, so you need to check with them. Good luck.
