It says not to tell anyone? I already e-mailed all the schools that I have decisions pending from to let them know! Oh god...

I'm pretty sure nothing's gonna happen. ;)

Yeah I don't know why they have that rule...
<.<

.> Nobody knows who i am, muahahahah!

what exactly does it say about not telling anyone?

"No one but your immediate family should be notified until May 3" or something like that.

i think the notification letters were to have been mailed out on the 23rd. is that what you heard too?

I just heard today about the $2500 scholarship. I live in SC.

The National Merit website says that notification begins in mid-March and continues to mid-June. Of course this is ambiguous since the notification includes that for the $2500, the corporate-sponsored and the college-sponsored awards as well. Were all of the $2500 packages mailed on the 23rd or is it rolling to some degree?

i believe that letter (from the 23rd) is only in reference to the $2500 award........but i might be wrong. does anyone else happen to know?

So is this a big honor?

hey i've been notified that I got the scholarship too. does anyone know the latest we can change first choice school? may 1?

no, i think it's later than that. May 1 is the deadline for when you decide where you want to go, so it's definitely after that.

ok yes i guess that makes sense. oops i just told my best friend.. but i think i'll just say she's family.

irinak - i think you need to notify national merit corporation by mid april that you are "undecided" unless you have already listed "undecided." if you are considering multiple schools this is a good way to go. if you currently have a school listed that is not the school that you want as your first choice, notify national merit immediately. you can call national merit to check the dates with them as well. you don't want to have the wrong school listed because once the school has awarded their "national merit award" to you........you cannot change to another school. at least this is how I understand the process to work. declaring "undecided" is a good way to go and then changing to your first choice school by the national merit deadline. you must notify national merit by fax or in writing. there is a card in your packet that you can submit. call them to verify that they've received it once you send it.

check with the schools that you are considering to see what their deadline is........for some it is May 1.........for others.......May 31.

if you haven't already applied to those national merit schools that you are considering.........you might want to get that done so that everything is in order should you choose that school as your first choice school. also, some of these schools have additional scholarships that may be available to you and you must apply to be considered.

Another national merit scholar here in NE Ohio. D got the letter this afternoon. We really needed the money. YEAH!!!!!!

Hate to do the stats thing again, but of those who have received the $2500 in the last day or two, what are your stats?

My stats are in a few of my posts...sry, too lazy to post themm. heheh!

My son received the $2500 award today. Very exciting. He is waiting to hear late this week from his reach schools. Should we tell them? Would it help with a last minute decision, or just annoy them?

My son had a 230 PSAT and a 2340 SAT. Received the letter Saturday. Pretty amazing. ED Dartmouth. Good luck!

I got the letter friday or saturday i don't remember. 224 psat 2240 sat--different scores on different sections though, the exact same score would be quite creepy. I guess they must have liked my reccomendation and essay.

ok thank you so much condor! new question.. so if i accept the scholarship from natl merit does that make me illegible for the duke university scholars program for which i am a finalist? i dont think so, but my parents worry anyway...also some of my stats for those who asked... umm gpa - 4.98 ish with all I.B. classes, 1510 SAT; 221 PSAT..
