Yeah, yeah, no one ever said life was fair. But does that mean we all need to ignore what is unfair and accept it with a smile? I'm not that noble. As for the National Achievement Program, that is race-based which some might say makes it inherently unfair--an issue that is already being discussed in the AA thread, so I'm not going to touch it here. But within the non-minority scholarship programs, why should lower-scoring students receive scholarships when there remain higher-scoring students who have not been rewarded?

I have to add to HImoms list--University of Cincinnati, which offers in-state tuition, room & board, & $1500 for computer or study abroad expenses to NM finalists. They just started this year so are not on most lists.

There are some schools which will award EVERYONE with specified credentitals merit scholarships, listed in sites I posted above on this thread or others. Part of whether a student gets a merit award depends on which school the student wants to attend. Some schools don't give ANY merit awards, while some only give need-based merit awards. Each scholarship program has the right to set its own rules, whether folks like it or not. Schools have different rules for their awards as well; some of the rules are set by the folks who have donated funds for the scholarships.

so, just as an update:

all the $2500 nmsf scholarships (from nms themselves) were handed out in each state?

what about corporate scholarships?

yay just got a college-sponsored one today :)

me too!

total value additional 4k :)

i'm really glad i made a decision to go to my first-choice NM school

The school my son chose has given him a 1/2 tuition scholarship for 4 years. They also said they may give him an extra $1000/year--I still need written confirmation about this & suspect it will come once NM lets them know they've received his official notification of son's 1st choice school. Today, he got an additional $2500/year for 4 years from the school of engineering! As parents, we're very happy that the cost of his school is going down instead of up!
