Does anyone know... or know where to find, the National Merit Semit Finalist and Commended score cutoffs for California over the past five years?.

Somewhere I saw a spread sheet that listed the cutoffs for each state. I know that last year the score cut off was 216. My daughter just had a 217... so kind of too close for comfort and we were wondering what her chances might be.

Please let us know what score it took to be a semifinalist in California over the past 5 years.

Wondering, was 217 99th percentile? Do they go by percentile or something else? We're sitting here in just about your shoes at 218, keeping fingers crossed. September's a long time to wait.

A 217 will cover in Caly, don't worry about it. Congradulations

Quite frankly, it means very little unless you attend the state school and then they give you a ton of money. But for the ivys and such, your GPA and SAT are more important.

Last year the cutoff in California was 217, not 216. I know because my daughter got a 216. The score had been 216 for the previous two years and 215, I believe, the year before. No one knew before how the new test would affect the PSAT, but in California the result was that the cutoff went up a point.

Post #202 there has links to past few years' cutoffs and official NMSC calendar. This year's Semifinalist notifications were mailed to principals Monday.

Charchazwick: I'm sorry if it bothered you. The intent was to get everyone who asked about the state cutoffs into a single thread so we'd have as much data as possible. The PSATs came out last fall, so some of the threads dated back that far. I even got some people from PrincetonReview.com to come over to CC. And a number of people sent me private notes thanking me for referring them in. But again, I'm sorry if it bothered you...

As soon as someone posts to an "old thread", that thread becomes "new" and moves to the front of the line. But, people who once posted to that thread are often notified that there is a new post.
