National Merit Semi-finalist!!

Nice. (Space)

:)

I too am a Semi-Finalist, just notified today. I was about 15 points or so above the cutoff in Arizona, which I think was 211.
My school has always done really well getting people in this competition. I think this year might be a record for us: we got 24 PEOPLE in (I'm 99% sure most in Arizona). A couple of my friends were around 212-214 barely made it haha.
I think this represents how good my school is and how tough my class competition is, is there any way colleges will know/look at this when I am applying.
Thanks.

We got 8 in (which is low for us, last year I think we had 13), but we only have a class of 300. Plus we're in NJ, :-/

My class only has around 250. However, I realize the cutoff in Arizona is pretty damn low.

Why the hell is the cutoff for Georgia 218?

I haven't heard anything yet :(

Did anyone with a score lower than or equal to 227 make semi-finalist in California?

If you got 227, you definitely made it. MA was only 222 and i doubt one state would jump that much while others stayed the same/went down mostly.

Congrads!

:)

Woot :D
Now let's hope I get Finalist status and that 2500 bucks

yeah, california's cutoff is 217

Btw, 227 is an awesome score. Good job.

:)

Our school, Thomas Jefferson Fairfax Virginia, just gave us the notice and documents to apply for national merit finalist for all students who qualify as national merit semifinalist. I am in with a Psat 232. This year my school has 169 students qualified with a class of approx 410, the highest number in any high school in the nation 10 years in the roll, 172 2005 class and 157 2004 class. Number 2 is probably Stuyvesant High School New York, approx 120 with a class of 700.

condor - the national achievement scholar program is targeted at African-American students; the national merit scholar program is for everyone.

We had 13, which is fourth in the state and first on the Western half. And we're a public HS, so we're competing with all the prep schools who are more selective in who they let in.

as far as I have heard, I am the only semifinalist this year and the first in my school for several years...I feel so lonely:(

good grief, my class size is 500, and I'm 1 of 4! Those numbers are absolutely insane, AliceX!

About the space limitations for the essay, do you think I could just type my essay in 10 point text? It's 650 words instead of 500, but I just can't cut it down any further! I'm using my favorite college essay that I altered a bit, and taking anything else out will completely ruin it.

DANG! Missed Semifinalist by ONE math question -- I got a 76. An 80 would have gotten me 216, the cutoff for Illinois.

Dang.

Woot! I got semi-finalist too. Only one in my school. Of course, I have a class of 50, so only having one isn't too pathetic. Now I just need to write that dang essay. Yuck.

Congrats to everyone else who got semi-finalist!

Did the school notify you or did you get a letter at home? Is it a confrontation with guidance counselor thing or do you get it in homeroom or publicly notified in front of other students? I'm confused about being notified... lol.

Alice, your school doesn't count because TJ is insane-o-matic. There....now I fell better.

Some1UKnow- actually, the principle told my mom who was at the school at the time, and she came in and told me during homeroom. Near the end of the day, the principle caught me in the hall and gave me the packet. But that's just my school. We do tend to do things weird.
