National Merit Semifinalist Qualify Scores -- Class of 2012

Iowa -210 ( I called)

I asked for a second state and was redirected to someone who told me. “I am sorry sir, we can’t give you two states!”. I don’t understand why they just can’t post the entire list somewhere to save everyone the trouble. Does collegeboard have holdings in some phone companies?

Thanks for your contributions!

Alaska is 212, down 2 points from last year

Those states that have gone up 4-5 points are interesting. I would love to know if there have been any major reforms in those states over the past few years and this was expected, or if this is an anomoly.

^ I don’t think there has been a year like this in the past 10 years. Not sure about prior than that.

Thanks for AK. Seven more states. Anyone?

Thanks “Mom2collegekids, texaspg and cuhope” for all your help. Today I received a call from NMSC and confirmed that my son is placed as a semifinalist and his school will be notified.

I’m from South Dakota and am a semifinalist. My score was a 224, so I’d expect the cutoff to be much lower as it’s usually around 205 here.

Thank you, political pop. That site was not up to date as of this weekend.

Does anyone have information from the NMSC office on what the confirming SAT score will be this year? It has been 1960 for the past 2 years.

^^^

It may not have been set yet. To be safe, try to have a 2000+

What is your best sitting score?

I don’t think the set score varies more than 10 pts.

Cutoff for Louisiana was 209…I believe this is down a point from previous years.

He had a 219 on the PSAT but only a 1970 on the SAT. The room where he took the SAT had a clock that was buzzing loudly! Everyone in there complained. It really bothered his concentration. I know they don’t count the writing section on the SAT as a confirming score since the PSAT doesn’t have writing (you add 0 to the multiple choice writing score to get the writing score for that section for NMSC purposes).

The PSAT does have a writing section. However it does not have an essay.
