If you get the 99% on your percentile, are you a National Merit Semifinalist?

One’s being a Semifinalist depends on his or her score and the state in which he or she lives.

Ok, Thanks. Do you think it is going to be higher or lower than last year’s cutoff?

It depends on the state, like silverturtle said. Usually the cutoffs do not change more than 2 points (either up or down) in a year. Very rarely they will move by three points. I believe you could find anotherr forum with the recent cutoffs…If you are over about a 220, then you can consider yourself with about 98% certainty to be a Semifinalist, at least.

Well I got a 215, in Texas, but last year’s was 216. Im going to be ****ed if I miss it by one point.

that happened to me last year, 215, accidentally mis-bubbled an easy math question, got one of those consolation cards instead T_T, I failed horribly xP

But then again, the cutoff the year before was only 215 for Texas so you never know…

OMG failboat, that is the same thing that happened to me!! I missbubbled ONE math question, and it cost me four points!!

haha, if it’s any consolation to you, I had also gotten an abysmal score for the SAT on top of not getting into the semifinalist listing and still made it into an Ivy, things are still looking bright for you =D

do you have to score above the cutoff or just at the cutoff to be a semifinalist

Define “abysmal”

I believe on the cutoff is acceptable.

On the cutoff is good enough to become a National Merit Semifinalist.
