Hello i was wondering what nationality i should put considering my mom is african american, my dad is from mexico, and ii was born american.
But also just curious, what nationality has a bigger advantage applying for college African American or Hispanic? Put aside all ethical reasons.
I’m half AA and my son has always counted himself as AA since kindergarten. If you look at National Merit, Achievement and Hispanic you’ll see more colleges giving scholarships to Merit and Achievement (which is AA). A smaller group of colleges give awards to Hispanic.

The purpose of putting your race / ethnicity on college applications is to tell them what your race / ethnicity is, not to gain some kind of boost to get into colleges… Regardless of what race you are, I feel some type of way about people who will say or do whatever they think it takes to get ahead in life to the point that they’re willing to compromise ethics.
Nationality (American) is not the same as ethnicity (Hispanic) or race (African American). Check whichever box(es) apply to you.
