My S is a h.s. soph. He wants to study either illustration or graphic design in college. Not sure if it'll be LAC or art school. He's planning on going to Boston's NPD later this month. Any advise for those who have done this? Thanks

Have you done a search through this grouping of threads? There are many that discuss NPD and how to handle them. I did that last year and felt very well prepared. My biggest suggestions are to bring real work, not photos whenever possible; wear comfie shoes; go with one or two extra people to stand in line at popular schools while your s goes to less popular schools to get all the reviews he can on that day; bring water and snacks as it is a long day; and bring an ipod or smart phone to play music on while you wait in line. When we went my d’s junior year, she got a lot out of the experience. Good luck!

hi
if it is the first time ever, don’t get overwhelmed by how art school wannabe kids dress or act, esp you are still soph. Some of them mistake the occasion as an audition or something and …gawk!!
there are many many way to study art and since he is not sure LAC or art schools, better attitude for now might be to just to get some ideas what it is like.
don’t go
“I don’t wanna be, like, one of them!” (happened to my S)
Boston is a crowded one, I heard.
yes phillymom is right, scan attending schools and eyeball them out. plan ahead, but take it easy.

you are mom4, too? original mom4 had to be addressed in full name from now on.

We went the first time when my son was a sophmore, too. Our goal that year was to get as many crits as possible, so We stood in all the super short lines. It was all about the feedback and recommendations, things to work on.
