I know Naviance is linked to Common App, but is it also linked to Coalition?
If a teacher wrote a LOR and submitted through Naviance, what happens if more schools are added later on? Do we need to contact the teacher again, or will it be automatically sent since the LOR is in the system?
Also, does a teacher have to submit a letter for each college you are applying to? Or is it a generic letter that is automatically sent to all colleges that were checked off on your list? My S is casting a wide net and now I’m concerned that the GC and teacher will be annoyed if he adds more schools, or has certain schools that only require the Coalition application.
I submit my letters to the Common App and upload them onto Naviance, then send a copy to Guidance. From that point I have no idea where each of my kids is applying.
Every school handles it in a different fashion. In my d district, once a new school is added after the letter has been uploaded, the teacher needs to be asked to send it. All she does is send an email via Naviance that schools were added. It is all done electronically.
One of the many things I learned here on CC is that Naviance is a software package that schools buy. It has a ton of features that schools may or may not activate. Schools also differ in how information gets into the system (i.e., by students or administrators, verified or not, how many years of data to keep in there, etc.)
Practically speaking, this means that you need to direct your questions to your GC.
As for “being mad” about adding schools, if your high school doesn’t tell you that there is a limit to the number of schools you may apply to – some do although it isn’t that common - they need to support you.
At our school, the same LOR was uploaded to all schools regardless of when added. The GC did the set up for that.
Thanks, everyone! I just think that we are taking this very seriously and trying to chase scholarships/find the right fit/target certain schools for certain majors/etc and so we have more than 10 schools lined up on Common App right now (apparently we need to submit to those 10 before being able to add any more). My S is in a school where people probably apply to 3 state schools and call it a day. That’s why I was worried that he would be considered a bother to the GC (not that useful or hard working)!!!
My daughter had one school that required the coalition app and it was not linked to Naviance. The GC and recommenders had to manually upload everything. If your son is adding common app schools it should be pretty straight forward for the GC.
