We heard at the Engineering open house this past Saturday that the Engineering village is moving from Metcalf to Sullivan. We toured Metcalf last year.
What dos anyone know about Sullivan? Recent updates etc.?
Also at open house director of the village said he hoped notification would go out in 2-3 weeks. On another thread they were notified last year on April 14 +/-.
Sullivan is an older suite, style dorm and generally considered less desirable than Metcalf. It’s location is less central to main campus and near Fountain dining hall.
sullivan is nothing special. In general the more recently renovated the better. They are all adequate though, And quite frankly the honors dorm was a bit nicer only because it was redone more recently. but even sullivan vs honors dorm was only different in location (relative to classes on central campus) and age of renovation.
Huh? Lee/Sullivan/Bowen/Metcalf/Carroll were all built within a few years of each other in the mid-late 60’s. And they are all suite style (or at least NCSU version of suite)
I think the overall point is the dorms closest to central campus are not that different from each other. The ones further out (like centennial campus) that are more apartment style and have kitchens etc… but for those looking to have the shortest walk to central campus classes they aren’t that different. the major difference is whether you have lots of toilets/showers for the whole floor (hall or dorm style) or a single toilet or two/shower or two shared by a smaller group 2-4 units (suite style). despite the name at least for honors dorms (bagwell etc…) the more recently remodeled hall style was much nicer than the suite style my kid was in IMHO (largely due to recent remodeling). Also, some of the shorter buildings allow kids to use stairs and not have to wait for elevators.
Sullivan is part of west campus housing, which also includes Lee and Bragaw. They are all suite style and very close to Fountain dining hall. Sullivan is probably the worst of the three. The elevators are leaning and the stairwells get tons of water in them when it rains. Engineering Village may or may not be worth it depending on what you are looking for out of it.
