I found College Navigator to be a powerful and easy to use tool and offers two features lacking in most other college search sites:

1) Admission data by gender. There are many good schools that have relatively large difference in admission rates for men and women. For instance, at William&Mary the overall addmission rate is 32.2%, but that breaks down as 26% for women and 43.8% for men.

2) College cost data for the past 3 years. It is quite useful to get an idea of how fast costs have been rising at a particular school. Having 3 years side by side conveys that information in a way that a single year simply cannot.
