Hello there! I recently moved to North Carolina from overseas (Belgium) and find that the curriculum isn’t as challenging as I want it to be. After doing some research I came across NCSSM, and though I’m not as great as some of the other posts on here, I want to see what you might think my chances are.
First off, the school I attend currently is Western Alamance High ( not the greatest but supposedly best in the area ). My SAT scores are 1240 (not 1500 but it should do, right?). I am currently in ninth grade with my courses being:
Computer Programming
Biology Honors
English I Honors
Horticulture Honors
Math III Honors
Health & PE
Personal Finance
Civics Honors
My lowest class grade so far is a 94 in Biology.
In 10th grade I plan to take
Math IV, Calculus AB (yes, hopefully in the same year)
AP World History
Chemistry Honors
and the rest of my schedule I have not planned out.
Having moved recently, I have not had a lot of time with extracurriculars so any that anyone can recommend would really help. Past extracurriculars I have been involved in were:
Head of STEM club (we didn’t have roles like president but I was known to help out a lot of the others. I have a wide knowledge on many of the things we did there)
After-School Band as well as Advanced Piano Lessons (not sure if music would help much with an application)
I was invited to join NJHS though had to turn down the offer due to not a lot of areas I could find for the required monthly community service.
I’ve been looking into any part time jobs, though not sure if that can help any. I assume it might help and show that I have dedication? I’m not sure. Again, any suggestions on clubs or anything to join would really help! I have also been looking into night-time classes at my local community college, though can’t personally see anything that would benefit me.
Thank you for taking the time in reading and and examining this. I need all the help I can get in these next two years if I want to get into this school, and I know I’m not the best candidate, but I’ve been looking for a better chance to pursue my education, and this school is really not cutting it. Again, thank you all very much!
Haha, I forgot to mention in the music extracurriculars that I also partake in the school’s a Capella group. I’ve already said it quite a few times but thank you again to anyone reading!
Oh darn, another mistake! I wrote SAT when I meant PSAT. Sorry!
