@LutherSetzer- Now you can see why I am taking NCSSM online. Need the extra classes and have a lot going on. Thanks!

@LutherSetzer- I just hope scholarship committees don’t hold it against me. Don’t want them saying, “We don’t want to waste a 4 year scholarship on someone who may only be here 2 1/2 years.” Thoughts about that?

Glad that I found this website. No one mentioned to me during NCSSM Open House or other conversations about the Articulation Agreements with NC universities. I figured that I would need to score high on the AP exam to earn the college credit.

My only concern is that NCSSM has Articulation Agreements with universities, but I am curious if my community college will honor my credits earned through AP Physics. Would like them to give credit so that my CORE 44 “package” of credits will transfer. Plus, I earned the diploma with them, would like to be recognized by walking during their graduation.

Anyone know more info?

Is anybody on here reviewing or studying for the placement tests that will be given on Welcome Day? I really want AP Calc and AP Chem, but it has been awhile since I’ve taken Chem, so I need to do some heavy prepping for that. I am pretty confident in my Precalc abilities to land a spot in AP Calc, but I might still review.

Do you know what will be on the placement tests? I want AP Physics. BTW- friend of mind said that AP Chemistry is really hard- professor’s favorite quote is, “If it isn’t hard, it isn’t AP.”

^I have no idea. I know that they test Physical Science, Chemistry, Math, and Foreign Language on Discovery Day. I really like Chem and it is actually related to my career pathway (pharmacy), so I really want it so that I can get to the higher Chem classes.

I think that I read that it was a math placement test, but that is for NCSSM online. Are you doing online or residential? Can’t remember- sorry.

^I am doing residential. I know that last year there were Math (Calc or Precalc), Physical Science, Chem, and Foreign Language tests. I do not know if there have been changes, but I think information will be sent through the status page about what will be done on Welcome Day. I know that Online does take a math test.

I was wondering if you guys have received your appeals decision. They said we would receive it on April 19th by 3:00 P.M., however I have not received the decision on my application yet. Thank You.

Apparently notifications are going out at 4 PM today (Friday, April 20). Each appeal candidate will receive a notification alert email message with log in details and link to a site to find out their appeal status, either Wait List Finalist or Non Finalist.

Just got an email stating it would be 9 tonight before results of Finalist, Wait List, or Appeal Nonfinalist. Results will be posted on the regular application site, but not until the email has been sent.

@neogeezer: Thank you for the updates.
T

BTW, the results are online now.

Good luck to everyone that appealed!

@neogeezer: Thank you for letting us know the results are in. I will update your on our daughter’s status once she gets home. She won’t check the page until she gets home. Ugh. @Evanb…thanks for the kind thoughts!

@taben: You are welcome! I eventually want to meet all these amazing people that lurk the thread at NCSSM, whether it be at Welcome Day or during the school year.

Appeal Results: Waitlist (Residential)
Sooooo, the waiting game continues!
Can you attend SVSM if you are waitlisted at NCSSM? I would assume so as you may not find out until right before, during or after SVSM if you get a spot at NCSSM. But, who knows!
T

My daughter is in same boat. What are the chances of getting in? Also, how did you all accept the waitlist status?

We have ‘heard’ the the chances of getting in off of the waitlist are fairly good as kids choose not to attend once summer comes around. However, she also heard that calls come as late as labor day (not sure that is accurate).
We do know one who got in 1 day before move in day. Her mother said that her daughter dropped everything, packed up and went and never looked back. She was that kind of kid: sure of herself, ready to jump in and never waivered on going to NCSSM…and did fine once there. Her advice was to make the decision now rather than when/if the call comes. If you don’t think you will take it, say so now and move on. Otherwise, be ready to say yes on the spot and get your ducks in a row.
But a friend who got the same call decided by then that it was too much effort to take the spot; she had already started pre season sports practice with her home high school and finished all the summer reading work and realized that returning there was wiser than rushing off to NCSSM. In the end, she liked the idea of getting into SSM more than the actually having to go.

Do you know if waitlist kids go to Welcome Day?
Also, I will ask my daughter how she accepted the waitlist spot.

T

I’ve been following this thread for some time now, and couldn’t help but notice the wait list questions. I’m also on the wait list, so I thought I might be able to help. Wait listed kids go to Welcome Day II, which is May 2nd, or at least that’s what it said on my status page; and if you have accepted the wait list offer, you must go to Welcome Day. To accept the wait list offer, you simply go to the status page and scroll to the bottom of the page, it should ask you to accept the offer by selecting “yes”, and then you click save at the bottom of the page. Hope this helped :)
