Has anyone applied to this program? I am applying to it and hopefully getting in. My stats aren't stellar. For those of you who attended, can you please tell me about your experience and how to get the edge when applying.. Thanks!

bump.. anyone from North Carolina?

I know some people who participated. List your stats and I can tell you whether they match up

My son applied to the program. I guess decesions come out April 1st.

Hmm, for you people that applied to summer ventures, did you apply to NCSSM as well? After all, isn't NCSSM the one that sponsors this?

my stats arent that great.. Should i apply to some of the less competitive programs (which ones?). 73/447 (top 16%--changed schools) and 170 psat with 73 math.. a few science related, kinda superficial, ECs.

Dear North Carolinians,

do you know any more good/free summer programs that I can apply to? Anything would help.

Didnot -
My son started the process of applying to NCSSM, but then decided he didnt want to continue with it. For the last 2 yrs thats all he talked about was applying to NCSSM, but then all of a sudden after he started the process, he chose not to continue. He didnt give a reason as to why, just decided he didnt want to go.

Although I did apply to NCSSM, I regret not applying to SVSM this year. I had a low psat score and didn't think I had a chance.

Leetx, what grade are you in? Some camps are open to rising juniors only.

Rising Senior.

anyone know more about more about other summer programs in NC? are my stats good enough to get in?

Heres a list of a few summer programs:
http://www.cogito.org/Programs/programslist.aspx?summerprograms

http://www.training.nih.gov/student/sip/info.asp
This one looks really great, but also looks hard to get into.

I'm from NC. I'm applying to both SVSM and NCSSM. I had 1080 in SAT. is that enough!? My stats r pretty cool. Hoping to get into. SVSM is sponsored by NCSSM. Highest avg GPA in Math, Science and English in 9th grade. 100s in first semester 10th grade. some sorta extracurricular stuffs. that's pretty much it besides some other small awards and stuffs. chances plz at both SVSM and NCSSM?

1080 on all three sections? Well, personally, I have a 1940 (700 cr, 660 m, 580 cr) but I still think its a crapshoot. Maybe thats just because I'm from the RTP district.

Though from what I've heard, NCSSM looks at more than your scores.

Most of my friends did Summer Ventures last year, and they had a blast. To tell you the truth, they were all very smart (straight A's, etc) but their SAT scores were not stellar. From what I heard, they had a LOT of fun there.

All of them were accepted to NCSSM. They weren't geniuses, but still very hardworking and got A's in their classes. Their SAT scores were around 1900+. They really LOVE NCSSM also, and going there really helps you get into UNC-Chapel Hill especially.

Does applying to SVSM significantly help when you're applying to NCSSM too?

I suppose it shows interest...

1620 all together. (gave the SAT yesterday, not expecting a big jump, maybe it'll end up as 1700 if too much cumulatively) now, how does it look right now?

Depends on which district you're from since each district has a certain amount of seats.

Applying to SVSM would certainly show some initiative. I mean, you're a sophomore and you are willing to spend your summer at a nerd camp, basically. A fun one, that is. :p So yes, I suppose the NCSSM admissions committee would see SV in an agreeable light.

Didnotfaillife---I'm from 8th Congressional District (well, Mecklenburg is in 9! so close, but yet very different indeed!) Atleast 16 and atmost 32 are chosen. So, I was wondering whether I can make out as one of those 16. (I'd REALLy love that)

dear north carolinians,

do you guys know of any more free or prestigious summer programs for a rising junior. I know about boys state and legislators school, but none more.
