NCSSM Applicants 2012/ Class of 2014 Results

So, when do the NCSSM results come out...site just says mid April? Also, anyone apply for summer ventures? We have kids waiting on both!

Well I thought the results came out April 12th, but then I heard April 16th… so sometime in mid-April. And yes I applied to SVSM.

SVSM results are out, available on the website under Status of application. Good luck to you, Quacoh.

Does anybody know the acceptance criteria? Is it like NCSSM which goes by congressional districts or a preference given to rising seniors over rising juniors? And if not accepted, is there any feedback? Thanks.

afreenc: I would think that they try (with SVSM) to get kids from all around the state but I do not know if the mandate is a strong as that which is used at NCSSM.
Our child got no feedback…just ‘alternate’.

I just checked my status today and I also had “alternate” listed. Does anyone know what that means? How many people were picked as finalists and alternates? Also if anyone knows if it’s likely that I will be selected for Summer Ventures or not… you’d be a great help. Thanks!

Tdawg: There is a thread specifically about SVSM and I posted this on there earlier:
"Just for clarification of status for alternates, and additional information for finalist, the following is now on the SVSM page:

Understanding Your Status:

•Finalist- Student has been accepted to participate in the program this year.
•Alternate- Student has been accepted only if space becomes available. As Finalists decline, the SVSM Director will notify student that he/she has been offered an invitation to the program. Finalist must notify us by May 4th of their decision to accept our invitation.
•Not Selected: Student has not been accepted to participate in the program this year.

Please note: Notification letters, mailed April 5th, include campus assignment and program dates. "

In general, it means waitlisted…and we have no idea how many are waitlisted. But take heart that you were not in the ‘Not Selected’ category. You still have hope!

I applied to both SVSM and NCSSM. I am a finalist for SVSM at UNCC. Just waiting for NCSSM in 7 days. Anxiety and nervousness are building in me for this like my life depends on it. I am from CD1, which I feel is heavily recruited by NCSSM (I noticed last year when the adcom brought alot of advice for people in the presentation). Maybe this heavy recruitment will result in an acceptance?

Next MONDAY you learn your “fate” ! I’m so excited for you all (: & i can’t wait to apply next year :D

You are so lucky to live where you do in the context of NCSSM admissions . . . . It’s gonna be SO hard getting into NCSSM from the Charlotte Mecklenburg congressional district area next year :/

I applied to NCSSM for the online only program. Interesting item- when I went to one of the visitation days last fall, I was talking to one of the admission reps. When he learned that I was from congressional district #12, he tried to encourage me to apply to the residential school since CD #12 is historically on the low application end. I didn’t apply because I only wanted the online. If I applied to both just to say I got in the residential part, I might not be offered online and not get what I wanted in the end.

He said they automatically have 35 spots for each congressional district. If less than 35 apply from a district, those students have a very good chance of getting in. If those 35 spots aren’t filled, those spots go to other districts. This is probably obvious to everyone on here, but it was new to me last fall.

We gave one who is an alternate for SVSM and now is awaiting NCSSM status. If it is true that you cannot attend both SVSM and NCSSM, I wonder what they do if a person is waitlisted/alternate at NCSSM and moves ahead with SVSM…then finds out just before attending or while at SVSM? For that reason, it seems that the rule is or should be that a current NCSSM junior who intends to return for senior year cannot attend SVSM in between junior and senior year. However, on the SVSM very active thread going on on this site now, the thought is that NCSSM does not want you going to SVSM if you get in to NCSSM.
More waiting, more complications.

What is an alternate at NCSSM? I know what a waitlist is but I don’t know what alternate is?.

Also, does anyone know how competitive Congressional District 6 is? I will apply next year.

sorry…should have said waitlist rather than alternate for NCSSM. Then again, do they even do waitlist or is it simply finalist or non finalist?

As for Congressional District 6, which part of the state is that?

T

@taben: For what I have heard, they have finalist, waitlist, and non finalist .

So someone just told me that decisions will supposedly come out today at 4 pm on the online application module - anybody know if this is true? I remember hearing 16th on discovery day, but they’ve been known to change the posting dates in years past…

The decisions are now posted.

So who got in?

Finalist! :)

Now comes the hard part - deciding whether to go or not within 48 hours… Any thoughts?
