NCSSM Class of 2016- Future Applicants

The questions were no where near SAT math questions to me. The questions were like: factor this, simplify that, etc. There were hardly any word problems.

@ender thanks for the response. i heard the same from a current junior @ ssm but i wanted to make sure before i make a decision about going to ssm.

Yeah, like everyone said, the math test was super easy. Honestly I don’t think there’s anything that you can study that would really help, you just need a knowledge of basic algebra.
I submitted a transcript through cfnc, but it didn’t have my grades from this year, so I’m going to have to mail a paper one in I guess. Do you know if ncssm accepts transcripts if they’re mailed by a student? My school doesn’t want to have to spend money on stamps

@IceeSky I’m bringing them the stamps myself so that they have no choice. I don’t want to trust CFNC, b/c PowerSchool is being so shaky here. Our report cards have come out late every single time this school year.

I am a freshman this year. I am wondering what advice can you give me when I prepare to apply. Thank- you!

I talked to my guidance counselor today, and he said he would just mail a hard copy of my transcript to NCSSM since I couldn’t submit it online. I’m so glad that the Discovery Day test isn’t hard! It’s been seriously stressing me out. T_T

@NekaLovesu Lots of extracurriculars, get all A’s, be on good terms with your teachers (especially English, Math, and Science), study for the SAT (it’s never too early!), volunteering, do well on the essay questions and let others read your answers… and many more that I can’t think of right now!

Does anyone else have the morning session for the March 8 Discovery Day?

I wanted to talk to my guidance counselor, but we didn’t have school. I planned on getting my college transcript today, also. I’m so sick of snow. The weather won’t make up its mind up here. I wore flipflops on Sunday and it snowed on Monday.

@NekaLovesu I would start to compile a list of extracurriculars, awards, STEM activities, etc. My friend, who is a junior at NCSSM, told me to do this back in September and I am so grateful. Other than that, I would start studying for the SAT and keep your grades up!

@willsister1 I agree about the snow! I’m so tired of winter. Spring is my favorite season of the year and it just seemed like it was coming around when BAM we got another pile of snow.

Did the person at Discovery Day say we could have our counselors email them our transcripts?
I feel like that would be easier than actual mail because stuff tends to get lost using that, as well.
hmm…

Edited to Add: ALSO does anyone have any of their recommendations checked off in uniapp? I have all except my science teacher rec, and I’m actually quite confused because I thought the counselor was supposed to mail them all in at the same time

@loltired None of my recommendations are checked off yet. But yeah, that is strange! The counselor is supposed to mail them all at once.

None of my are checked b/c my English teacher will not finish it!!! I’m getting annoying with her. I gave it to them the first day, and my Math and Science teachers finished it within the week. She does the same thing when she grades papers. URGGG Its so aggravating.

@willsister1 Same here! It’s my English teacher for me, too. -_-

@loltired I just checked my uniapp and it says that they received my English teacher’s recommendation. But my math and science recommendations aren’t checked. That’s weird.

Hey guys! A bunch of my junior NCSSM friends told me they had to quit their extracurriculars (gymnastics, karate, harp, boy scouts, etc.) because there are no cars allowed at NCSSM so they can’t leave campus and also there is too much busywork so there is no time. I know that extracurriculars are really important for college and I will cry if I have to quit any of them because college>NCSSM. I might not even go if I get in because of this. What should I do? Also-- why can’t we have cars?

My counselor mailed all my recomendations and stuff and everything was received except transcript and sat score reports. Sigh… BTW SAT Score Reports are due March 15 if anyone didnt know because it wasnt on the application webpage.

@harvard456 There are clubs and sports at NCSSM that you can join.

I sent my transcript via CFNC since it worked the second time. I looked at it and it only has my 9th grade classes. Does NCSSM want my 1st semester of sophomore year? I feel like it would look better that way.

@WhiteRabbit98 I have the morning session on the 8th too! I’m freaking out a bit. I know it apparently isn’t that hard, I’m just scared I won’t be able to finish in time!

@pastelblue They said that they needed first semester grades. That is why transcripts weren’t due until now.
@harvard456 You can’t have a car because it is a liability issue for the school. What if you crash? What if you run away?

@songbird13 Yay, that’s awesome! I’m freaking out too. I’m someone who usually likes taking my time to work out everything correctly, so timed tests have always been an issue for me. T_T Anyway, I’m planning on taking today to hole myself up in my room and study study study! Maybe I’ll see you there on the 8th! Oh, and by the way, what CD are you from?
