@LolImANoob…Thank you so much! Sometimes I wish that I had not skipped the 9th grade because I would have been a stronger applicant…However, I didn’t want to hold myself back either. I’m sure you will get in as well…Have you posted your stats?
I know I’m checking WAAAAAY too early but I hope SAT scores are up soon…lol! I really need to get some I-)
@Jaejay …I hope you apply! I have heard that CD 13, 4, 12, and 9 are the most competitive districts but don’t let that discourage you from applying because you have so many positive attributes that NCSSM is looking for. Especially when it comes to your community service and ECs. Your SAT is way stronger than your schools score too :D! Sometimes I second guess myself when it comes to applying but in the end I would rather apply and be stressed than live with the regret of not applying.
How are you guys writing your essays and how long are you making them??
@smathstress I have been keeping “Essay Notes” throughout the year so I’m going through those based on the questions to put my essays together. Some of them are pretty long but I will revise them later to cut down the number of characters. I just want to reflect myself well on paper because the essays are just like an “interview” X_X …How is the process coming along for you?
@babyshuf2 I have one super good essay topic and several other okayish ones and then there’s two which I have no idea what to write about.
I’m thinking about getting my AP Lang teacher to revise some of them
Yeah I only have one or two essays that feel strongly about then the rest are just MeHh. I’m getting my English teacher to revise them too. I feel like I have to do good in my essays to make up for other stuff. Most of my essays cut it pretty close to being 1500
@smathstress …That is a great idea! My mom suggested that I get some of the English teachers to review mine. Nothing wrong with getting someone to look over things.
Do you guys think that the NCSSM acceptance office looks at or considers your class rank at all? If so, what should I be aiming for here?
Is anyone going to the November 14th open house?
Going on campus this Thursday. @-)
I am currently a sophomore in D3. I took Math I and Math II in 8th grade. I’m a girl, because apparently that matters. I get all As and my Weighted GPA in 4.4844. My school won’t allow me to take AP classes until my junior year and I am not allowed to double up in any classes except for science, which kind of sucks, but whatever.

I feel really good about two of the essays, am drawing a blank on two of the essays, and feel fairly accomplished wit the others. I don’t go to a very competitive school, but I know of at least three others that are applying. I wish I could’ve taken more honors courses, but like I said, I’m not allowed. I’m fairly confident that I’ll do well on the SAT, considering that I got a 2000 on one of the practice tests.
Do you think I have a decent shot at getting in?
Hi, I’m applying as well! I’m from CD-7 which I hear is reasonably competitive. But as far a stats go- my SAT score was a 2040 (640-750-650) so I’m retaking that to get the reading score up. Unweighted GPA is 4 and weighted is 5.125 on the 6-pt scale. I’m an eagle scout and was highly involved in the leadership of my boy scout troops and I have several hundred hours of volunteer work (through my eagle project, the OA, etc- somewhere in the 300-500 area). My class rank is 1/363 and my schedule is as follows:
Freshman:
AP Statistics
Hon Math III
Hon English I
Health/PE
Hon Personal Finance
Hon Civics & Economics
AP US Gov’t
Hon Biology
Sophomore
Hon Advanced Functions & Modeling (Like a Pre-pre-calc - my school didn’t let sophomores take pre-cal)
Hon English II
Spanish II
Hon Physics
AP European History (online as a 9th class)
AP Human Geo
Hon Chemistry
Hon American History I
Hon Spanish III
And in terms of clubs-
MathCounts in middle school, part of the team all 3 years, got 5th, 5th, 4th & as individual, I got 1st place as an 8th grader.
Science Olympiad- 2 first places’ as a 6th grader, couldn’t go to state
second place as a 7th grader
1st, 2nd, 4th as an 8th grader & placed 4th, nil, 4th at states.
Part of varsity swim team
Helped to tutor my middle school’s science olympiad team 9th grade year
Played piano for past 8 years
Also it should be noted here that I know the next ~20 or so in my class and none of them are applying, would that increase my chances? I know a few from other schools in the area that are, though.
Greetings! Current Sophomore from District 9 here, wondering what my chances are in getting into the School of Science and Math. It’s been a dream of mine to get in for awhile, and I’m wondering how my resume stacks up.

So, College Confidential, what are my chances?
bump
I am currently a sophomore in CD 2. From looking at my district map, it doesn’t look too competitive (not much of the triangle) and was wondering what my chances of getting in are. I attend a private school so we don’t have any honors courses though from my knowledge my schools regular classes are equivalent to public school honors classes.
GPA:
Unweighted: 4.0
Weighted: 4.2 (no honors classes and counting AP as 5)
SAT Score: Projected 2000 (get actual back in 4 days)
(760 Math 680 Reading)
9th Grade Classes: (my school’s classes are year round so i can only take 5 or 6 if i double discipline)
Algebra 2
Ancient World History
Biology
Chemistry
English 9 (my school’s only freshman English)
Spanish 2
10th Grade Classes:
AP Chemistry
Intro to Calculus
Physics
Spanish 3
World Literature (my school’s only sophomore English)
I feel it would be a waste of time to list all my extracurriculars/leadership/achievements/volunteering because they vary wildly between people but I am strong/experienced in all these sections.
I would greatly appreciate it if a student or alumni evaluated my chances.
Good luck to everyone!
So I got a 2160 on my SATs and I’m re-taking it again because I think it’s good enough of a score but I’m not really sure what other people at my school got Its just so stressful bc I want every little bit of my application to be perfect and I know that’s impossible
Hey guys I’m from CD-4 and I know there’s like probably over 30-40 ish people applying in my town alone LOL Yeah i’m screwed. I got a 2310 on my SAT though and I’m retaking in Jan to get higher n.n though i’m pretty sure people in my district are getting near 2400s…
