I like the first year college because of the housing (nice and centrally located) and the FYC village. On the other hand, I am almost positive that I want to do engineering so I am wondering if it would be optimal to be a first year engineering student instead. That way I can take classes more specific to engineering my freshman year.

If you are pretty certain you want to major in engineering then you should go with that.
Have you been accepted into the College of Engineering? You can still live in the high rise dorms on Central campus (the Tri-Towers).

And no, i haven’t applied yet because I missed the early deadlines. Do you think it would be possible to get a room in the Tri Towers if Im not an early applicant? Or will I get whats left over?

Bowen,Carroll and Metcalf are pretty big. They are suite style dorms. They are right beside Owen and Tucker, the FYC dorms. There’s no way of knowing what will be available next Spring. Central campus is popular.

Do you think you have the grades,SAT scores to get you into the College of Engineering?
If not, you can always do FYC.

Well im not sure how hard it is to get into the college of engineering, but my stats are:

GPA (weighted): 4.375
Rank: 10%
Courses: I will have taken a total of 8 AP classes by time i graduate
SAT: 19something out of 2400 or around 1280 out of 1600

Do you think i should be able to get in?

And even though its not required, should i get teacher recommendations or write a personal statement?

Sounds like you have a good shot at College of Engineering.
Since it’s not asked for I wouldn’t think there would be a need for teacher recs. State gets so many apps. they prob. don’t have time for reading recs.
I think there is an optional part of the application for doing something similiar to a personal statement…sort of of “why NCSU” sort of thing. At least there was when my S applied.

I have one more question. If I apply to the college of engineering as my first option and first year college as my second option, and if i don’t get into the college of engineering, will they review my application to see if i get into the first year college?

Or if i get denied from the college of engineering, will i also get denied as a student?

If you do not get into your first choice then they review you for your second choice major and decide if you get admitted to that college’s major, thats why they ask for two majors so if I were you I would put two majors from two different colleges within the university so that you have a safety.
