UNC Charlotte or NC State University for Engineergin?

I'm having a really hard time deciding between UNCC and NCSU for undergrad engineering!
I've been accepted into both! If i go to UNCC then i actually make money, but I'm kinda uncomfortable with the concept of living at home while study engineering (they also haven't given me enough to live on campus). If I go to NCSU, I'll not have to study at home (putting me right beside my classes), they gave me substantial fin aid, and

Don't know which one to pick and don't know the difference in engineering programs (I plan to study Mechanical Engineering).

Also, any suggestions on how i can ask a college to give more money, (I want to go to NCSU for the education and dorm life, but I have a feeling UNCC would be a smarter choice but i want to live in a dorm, they didn't give me enough to do that!)

Please help!

A vote for NCSU here. UNCC has beefed up its programs, but State still has the stronger and more recognized engineering programs.

Going away for college is usually a good idea. Raleigh is more fun than Charlotte for college kids anyway, and NC State has a lot more school spirit and more of the traditional college experience than UNCC. If financial aid made State affordable, I don’t see any downside.

NCState is much stronger in engineering. Living on campus is fun. But NCState is HUGE. Even larger than UNC-Chapel Hill. Be warned. Large classes abound particularly for underclassmen.

Are you focused? Disciplined? Mature? Party animals exist everywhere. Engineering is a TOUGH major. Will living at home be better for work ethic? Less partying and such? Think of all the angles.

Now that i think about it, i don’t really care about dorms. What i care about mostly though is which has the better education and which education would I enjoy better? I am a focused and disciplined worker, not a party animal at all but i do have a social life. I’m in the top 10% of my class and have an unweighted GPA of 3.85 with a weighted of 4.65. I work hard for the grades I earn!

I need more pro’s and cons for each one, they’ve both been equal in value, but i keep looking at both becuase there has got to be something that sticks out about one of these colleges that tells me that that college would be the best one for me and my future, but i just can’t find it becuase in the end, it’s gonna be the one that i succeed in life in! But I just don’t see the distinctions at all!

Any Suggestions?

Go to NCSU. You won’t have to live at home plus…

The engineering program is substantially stronger. When I go to the NC State Engineering career fair (I go to school in Durham), all the companies are mechanical engineering firms.

I’m not an engineer myself, but my roommate in college did undergrad at Charlotte and graduate school at NCSU. He was in no way pro-Charlotte, in fact, I would say that he was rather pessimistic about the university. However, after going to grad school at NCSU he claims that Charlottes program outshines NCSU in almost every way. The professors are better, the curriculum is more cutting edge and challenging, and the students are more engaged. There are two big differences between the programs; Charlotte offers a senior project, which allows students to interact with industry before they graduate and build a resume with concrete, real-world experience. NCSU on the other hand offers a refresher course before students take the FE, which means they pass a slightly higher rate.

Either way I think Charlotte is the better academy, but you just have to decide which option is uniquely best for you.
